National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationwide from September 15 to October 15: a time to honor the achievements, contributions, histories, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic/Latino/Latinx Americans have made to our nation and society.
National Hispanic Heritage Month began as a week-long observance in 1968, expanded to a month-long observance in 1988, and was enacted into law that same year on the approval of Public Law 100-402.
September 15 was chosen as the starting date for this important celebration because it is the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education encourages educators, students, and families to celebrate this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month’s theme, “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together,” by educating students on the culture (literature, art, music, dance), languages, traditions, cuisine, and positive contributions Hispanic, Latino and Latinx Americans have made in our country, district, and community.
At the Wednesday, August 14, 2024 Board of Education Meeting, Resolution #24.25-01 In Support of National Hispanic Heritage Month was approved.
