CVUSD Community Message

Dear CVUSD Community:

It is with great difficulty and profound sadness that the following is shared with you.

At approximately 3:15pm today, Tuesday, April 18th, a vehicle drove off of Thousand Oaks Boulevard and struck a group of four Westlake High School students who were walking on the sidewalk. Three students were transported to nearby hospitals for medical care, and one student, unfortunately, did not survive.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the Thousand Oaks Police Department continue to investigate the incident, and we continue to communicate and work closely with them.

During this time of unimaginable loss, our thoughts and prayers remain with these students, their families, friends, and the entire Warrior community.

Our CVUSD Mental Health team of counselors will be available at Westlake High School and across our CVUSD school campuses tomorrow, Wednesday, April 19th to provide support to our students, staff and Conejo community. Supporting the social-emotional needs of our students is always a focus, and even more so during times of tragedy.

We, as a tight-knit school community and District, appreciate your support and continued care for one another at this time, and always.

Sincerely,
Dr. Mark McLaughlin, Superintendent of Conejo Valley Unified School District and
Jason Branham, Principal of Westlake High School
