Westlake Elementary's Students Embrace Dance & Build Confidence
Westlake Elementary School’s students have got the beat! The school’s TK-5th grade students just began an 8-week performing arts curriculum, focused on celebrating and honoring different cultures through dance.
Once a week, each grade level participates in a 30-45 minute class in one of the following dance genres: Hip Hop, Swing, Salsa, Line Dancing or Stepping. To culminate the program’s completion, students will perform a short sequence they learned throughout their eight weeks of classes.
The offering of this confidence-boosting program is made possible thanks to a grant from the TO Arts Access Arts Grant Program, and additional funding support from Westlake Elementary School’s Parent Faculty Association.
This performing arts program is taught by instructors from Dance 4 Wellness & The Showtime Project and exposes students to the experience of performing in a theatre setting, thus encouraging teamwork, confidence, courage, and self-expression.
Thank you to our community partners who make special learning experiences like this possible for our students!
