Congratulations to Colleen Darden of Westlake High, CVUSD’s May 2023 Teacher of the Month!Colleen Darden is a kind, caring and enthusiastic teacher who has made a positive difference to the students and staff at Westlake High School for 18 years. A Spanish and French teacher, Ms. Darden creates a welcoming environment for students and gives them the confidence they need to learn a new language. The Conejo Valley Unified School District and the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor Ms. Darden as the May 2023 Teacher of the Month!

Ms. Darden plans lessons to ensure that all students are engaged in the content area. She engages students by incorporating theatrical plays and cooking into her lessons plans so students can truly immerse themselves in the culture. 

Ms. Darden demonstrates sensitivity to newcomers at Westlake High School, and she is a strong advocate for native Spanish speakers providing equitable access to content and challenging all students to reach their maximum potential. She also dedicates extra time during lunch and after school to work with students who need extra support.

She is an invaluable member of the Westlake High School community. Ms. Darden collaborates frequently with colleagues and shares best practices during department meetings. 

On Wednesday, April 5th, the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Conejo Valley Unified School District surprised Ms. Darden with the May 2023 Teacher of the Month recognition during a regularly scheduled Westlake High School staff meeting. Ms. Darden was presented with a commemorative plaque honoring her special recognition.

Congratulations, Ms. Darden and thank you for the positive difference you make on the Westlake High campus each and every day!

*Note: The May Teacher of the Month presentation was held in April out of necessity for the District to host all of its monthly Teacher of the Month recognitions prior to the County’s deadline for Teacher of the Year submissions and the District’s Teacher of the Year announcement.
