Community Service Opportunity: Apply to Serve on the CVUSD Measure I Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee

Conejo Valley Unified School District is seeking interested individuals to serve on its Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. The committee is charged with informing the public concerning the District’s expenditure of Measure I bond proceeds, reviewing expenditure reports, and preparation and presentation of an annual report. The committee meets at least once per year, but not more frequently than monthly.

Applications are being accepted for the following three committee seats, each with independent criteria:

  • Parent/PTA Member – Parent/Guardian of a student in the Conejo Valley Unified School District and active in a parent-teacher organization
  • Parent Member - Parent/Guardian of a student in the Conejo Valley Unified School District
  • Senior Citizens’ Organization Member - Active in a bona fide senior citizens’ association 

The deadline to apply is Friday, April 28, 2023 at 12:00 PM.

Additional Information about the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee:

Proposition 39 Bond Election
On November 4, 2014, voters residing within the Conejo Valley Unified School District passed Measure I. Measure I is a $197,000,000 bond measure that authorizes funding for needed repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects to the District’s schools. Proposition 39 required a 55% supermajority for approval; Measure I was passed by 65.28%.

Establishment of a Citizens Bond Oversight Committee  
After a bond authorized under Proposition 39 is passed, state law requires that the Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education appoint an Independent Citizens Bond Oversight Committee to work with the District. 

Committee Responsibilities 
In accordance with Education Code Section 15278(b), the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee shall: 

  • Inform the public concerning the District's expenditure of Measure I bond proceeds;
  • Review expenditure reports produced by the District to ensure that Measure I bond proceeds were expended only for the purposes set forth in Measure I; and
  • Present to the Board of Education in public session, an annual written report outlining their activities and conclusions regarding the expenditure of Measure I bond proceeds.

Appointment of Committee Members 
All appointments will be made by the Board of Education from applications submitted to the District. 

Time Commitment and Term 
Each member shall serve a term of two years, commencing as of the date of appointment by the Board of Education. No member may serve more than three consecutive terms.
