Dear CVUSD Community:

As high wind conditions return to our area, we want to reemphasize our commitment to educational continuity for our community of learners. New Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) alerts have been issued from Southern California Edison (SCE), which has the possibility to impact power at our school campuses, and the broader community, this week. When PSPS events are activated, and when power is ultimately restored, is determined by SCE. As has been previously communicated, our CVUSD school campuses will continue to be open when a school does not have power. Consideration to not open schools would include evacuation orders or if a school facility was deemed to be unsafe.

We understand the extreme wind conditions in our area, and the wildfires in neighboring counties can have a significant impact on feelings of stress and anxiety for all of us. Our trained school counselors and mental health staff are available on our campuses to support students. Additionally, the resources below may be helpful to review:

We encourage families to stay informed on local conditions: vcemergency.com is the official Ventura County incident information source. For detailed information on circuits impacted by PSPS events, please visit the Ventura County Sheriff Emergency Services Real-time Incident Dashboard. Per Ventura County, residents can share their concerns regarding the PSPS events to the California Public Utilities Commission online here.

We remain in communication with local officials and public utilities, and our Maintenance & Operations staff will continue to monitor the safety of buildings and provide operational support to schools, as needed.

Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support as we work together to navigate impacts from this week’s weather event. Our thoughts continue to be with all of those who have been affected by the ongoing fires, as well as with all first responders.

Sincerely,
Conejo Valley Unified School District
