Cypress Tiger Cubs receive a whole child education in a positive community environment! As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, students are taught through inquiry and have a role in their own education through voice, choice, and agency. In accordance with being a Certified IB World school, Spanish classes are taught weekly to all grade levels and incorporated into classroom lessons and campus activities. Students are also enriched with art, PE, music, Makerspace, and library. We also utilize our new Outdoor Learning Lab with amphitheater seating, native plants, lab tables, water streams, and more to enrich our unique IB units. As a Cypress community, we hold a morning assembly twice a week for students and families where important announcements are made and student recognitions are celebrated. Students are taught to be kind, reflective, good communicators, to be open-minded and more through the 10 IB learner profile traits. The active student council enriches the school with positive activities and dress days as well as creates video announcements twice a month to share about upcoming dress days, PTA events, the monthly Spanish challenge, reminders to be kind, and much more.

Sequoia Middle School is a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme!  This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy—a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that Sequoia Middle School believes is important for our students.

The MYP is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Throughout the International Baccalaureate (IB) MYP candidacy process, this framework will be implemented as a schoolwide model, which will benefit all students that attend Sequoia Middle School.

Sequoia Middle School is the only middle school in the district to implement a unique Block Schedule permitting students to focus on three classes a day rather than the traditional six. Students rotate through designated periods every day. Classes are 91 minutes long, this allows for longer instructional blocks so that students are able to practice skills and begin homework, and prepare students for their transition to Newbury Park High School’s block schedule.

Sequoia Middle School also focuses on the social-emotional needs of students with a school-wide Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program called CREW every day after lunch. CREW stands for Compassion, Responsibility, Empowerment and Well-being. On Mondays and Wednesday- Fridays during CREW, all students participate in activities related to developing positive character traits and strengthening school connections. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, students work independently on silent reading, homework, and makeup work completion or receive additional support in academic areas.

Sequoia Middle School is also the home of the Discover Academy. The Discover Academy is a school within a school that uses engineering and applied science as interdisciplinary themes. Discover also promotes hands-on, innovative, and inquiry-based instruction to encourage students’ lifelong love of learning in both traditional and small group settings.

Finally, Sequoia offers a host of Exploratory Classes which introduce students to a variety of disciplines. These classes include Art, Principle of Computer Science, ASB (Associated Student Body), Band, Choir, Digital Production, Epic Wellness, Guitar, Spanish, Strings and Yearbook.

Newbury Park High School is home to the oldest and largest International Baccalaureate (IB) program in the region. Our Diploma Program (DP) is a rigorous pre-university course of study for highly motivated secondary school students. This broad and balanced curriculum requires 11th and 12th grade IB diploma candidates to study multiple languages, social science, experimental science, mathematics, and an elective.

As an alternative to the full diploma program, students may choose to test in one or more IB subjects for individual course recognition.

The Majors Program is overseen by a full-time Career Education teacher and offers students the opportunities and resources to explore their unique areas of interest, and to develop their career-related strengths and goals. Our Career Technical Education (CTE) Career Pathways includes Robotics, Biotechnology, Stagecraft, Video Production and Broadcasting.

NPHS’s comprehensive extra-curricular program includes over 70 interest groups and clubs, 24 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) competitive sports, featuring league and CIF championship teams, numerous student athletes who play at the collegiate and professional level, and full-time programs in band, dance, instrumental music, theater and cheer.
