In CVUSD, we offer a post-secondary program, Conejo Oaks Academy, for students ages 18 through 22 who are in transition and present with significant learning, adaptive and language needs who are working towards a certificate of completion. Conejo Oaks Academy provides support to students who are transitioning from high school to adult life through classroom and community-based experiences.

Conejo Oaks Academy is located on the Conejo Valley Adult School campus. Students access the program five days per week for 360 minutes per day. In order to sufficiently support the learning needs of our students attending Conejo Oaks Academy, we maintain a low teacher to student ratio. We also staff each class with paraeducators per classroom needs, who, under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher, assist students towards achieving their IEP goals. Additionally, related service providers (e.g. School Psychologists, Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Board Certified Behavior Analysts) work closely with the special education teachers and paraeducators to support and meet each student’s needs.

Conejo Oaks Academy uses curriculum that is focused on acquisition of skills in the areas of functional academics, communication, independent living, self-help, social skills, and recreation/leisure. Students participate in Community Based Instruction (CBI) which includes job tours, job training, recreational opportunities with peers, exploration of community resources (e.g. police, fire, grocery stores, post office), and use of public transportation, which supports the development of vocational skills, employment strengths, as well as work preferences. Conejo Oaks Academy works with community partnerships for vocational training opportunities, including BeMe preschool programs, Aspen Elementary, Cisco’s Mexican Restaurant, Goebel Adult Community Center, Sodexo Food Services at California Lutheran University, the Conejo Closet, and Holdren’s Steaks and Seafood. Placement into the Conejo Oaks Academy Post-Secondary Program is through the IEP process. Completion of the Conejo Oaks Academy Post-Secondary program is upon the student turning 22 years of age, or at the end of the semester after turning 22 years of age.

The overall goals of our Conejo Oaks Academy Post-Secondary Program are to:

1. Provide supportive and positive learning environments for students; and
2. Provide specialized academic instruction in functional academic skills, communication skills, life skills, and vocational education to meet students’ unique and individual needs.
