Free Summer Meals

To help keep children nourished throughout the summer months, CVUSD's Child Nutrition team is offering free meals to all children ages 2–18. Meals will be available at designated locations across the Conejo Valley and neighboring communities. View the complete schedule now.

Summer Work Permit and Transcript Requests

During the summer months, work permits will be processed at the District office located on Janss Road. Additionally, transcript requests can be submitted online and will be overseen by District office staff. Complete details available here.

End of Year Message from Dr. McLaughlin

As the 2025-2026 school year comes to a close, we proudly celebrate another remarkable year of learning, growth, and achievement in the Conejo! Each and every school day we have been inspired by the many ways our students have excelled academically and grown as individuals. These accomplishments have occurred in both small and big moments: in the classroom, on the playground, in the quad, and everywhere in between.

22 students hold up plaques for Annual Youth Citizenship Awards

Congratulations to the 22 CVUSD elementary and middle school students who were recently honored by the Thousand Oaks Rotary for their demonstration of integrity, goodwill and service to others. Each CVUSD elementary and middle school nominated an exceptional student for the 40th Annual Youth Citizenship Awards.

Westlake High Students hold up certificates and wear medals for National Spanish Exam

Congratulations to the outstanding and dedicated Spanish language students from Westlake High School, who have once again demonstrated excellence on the 2026 National Spanish Exam (NSE), earning national recognition. In this year's competition, the students proudly earned 8 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals, in addition to 11 honorable mentions. 

Pride Month - June 2026

June is Pride Month, a time to honor the invaluable contributions of LGBTQ+ individuals across America, celebrate their fight for equality, and recognize their continued struggle against discrimination and injustice. Pride Month is celebrated every June as a tribute to those involved in the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.

Scholar Athletes Commit to Collegiate Sports

CVUSD is proud to provide students with the opportunity to join a diverse array of athletic teams during their educational journeys. This school year more than 55 scholar-athletes from the Class of 2026 have committed to playing more than 15  different sports at the collegiate level. This achievement is a testament to the hard work, perseverance and dedication of these scholar-athletes.

Tulsa Race Massacre

The Tulsa Race Massacre took place on May 31 and June 1, 1921, in a prosperous Black community in the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event is considered one of the worst incidents of racial violence in American History. CVUSD stands in solidarity with the victims and the survivors of the Tulsa Race Massacre and commits to contributing to the education of this American tragedy.

Olivia Johnson, 12th grade Lancer, won a Special Award in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which was held in Phoenix, Arizona this week. Olivia was one of more than 1,700 young scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and inventors representing more than 67 countries, regions and territories who participated in the annual event, now in its 76th year.
 

Classified School Employee Week

CVUSD's classified employees are an essential part of our learning community. They provide vital services and support that help students succeed each day.  From caring for students and preparing nutritious meals to maintaining safe, welcoming campuses and reliable technology, their contributions touch every aspect of the educational experience.

At the center of our CVUSD community are our dedicated employees who make invaluable contributions to our community of learners. We share our utmost gratitude for the more than 40 exceptional educators, administrators and staff members who have reached the well-deserved milestone of retirement. We also celebrate employees who have reached significant milestones of service this school year: 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, 30 years and 35 years. 

The Resilience Advantage: Raising Strong, Gritty and Confident Children

Join us on Tuesday, May 26th at 6pm for an engaging and insightful parent/guardian workshop as we discuss the challenges of raising children in today’s complex world. This free workshop hosted by our BreakThough Student Assistance Program and the Conejo Schools Foundation will provide support, guidance, and practical tools.

Kelsey Bartlett and Tish Pletcher hold Math Awards

The CVUSD is proud to share that Kelsey Bartlett, Math TOSA, and Tish Pletcher, 2nd grade teacher at EARThS Magnet School, have been named 2026 Outstanding Mathematics Educators Awardees by the Ventura County Math Council. They were selected as two of only five countywide honorees for their dedication to quality mathematics education.

Join us for a Walk-In Interview available on Wednesday, May 20th from 1:30pm to 3:30pm at our District Operational Center located at 750 Mitchell Road in Newbury Park.

Jayden is a 10th grade student at The Center for Advanced Studies and Research at Thousand Oaks High School, and Nandhitha is an 11th grade student at Westlake High School.

Congratulations to Jennifer Barber of Westlake Elementary School and Michele Lauterman of Lang Ranch Elementary School on being named We Honor Our Own (WHOO) Recipients for the 2025-2026 School Year! This honor is awarded by the Tri-County GATE Council to school site staff who have made the world better for gifted and talented students and their families.

National School Nurse Day is May 6th

Join us in celebrating National School Nurse Day on Wednesday, May 6th! We are so grateful for our School Nurses and thank them for the hard work and dedication they provide to our students, schools and the community. They support students' health and help make sure that students are healthy, safe and ready to learn.

Jewish American Heritage Month

Jewish American Heritage Month provides an opportunity for people to learn about and appreciate Jewish heritage and reflect on the history and experiences of the American Jewish community. This month provides an opportunity to honor, celebrate, and learn about the vital role Jewish Americans have played in shaping our nation.

CVUSD recognizes Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

This month provides an opportunity for our community to recognize the achievements, contributions, and history of, and to understand the challenges faced by Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. CVUSD encourages educators, students, and families to honor Asian American, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, and learn about their heritage and achievements through appropriate programs and activities.

National Mental Health Month is May 2026

Mental Health is essential to the overall health and well-being of students, educators, staff, and the broader school community. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the CVUSD seeks to educate the public, promote mental health and advocate for policies that support mental wellness for all.

Proud BCME District

CVUSD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding support and commitment to music education. This award spotlights school districts across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education.

CVUSD Celebrates Workforce Readiness Week - Students in CTE Programs

From April 27th through May 1st the Conejo Valley Unified School District celebrates Workforce Readiness Week. The observance of Workforce Readiness Week is a unique opportunity for schools to elevate the importance of workplace justice and for students to learn about the critical history of the labor movement in our state.

NPHS Swim Team is publicly recognized before the Angels baseball game

Congratulations to our Newbury Park High School Boys Swim & Dive Team on being a winner of the 2025-2026 CIF Southern Section-FORD Academic Awards! This award celebrates excellence in the classroom as well as in competition, with teams evaluated based on their cumulative GPA. With an outstanding 3.848 team GPA, they were the highest-achieving Swim & Dive Team from the large school category.

State of the Schools Address

The Conejo Schools Foundation hosts the annual State of the Schools event on Thursday, May 7th with CVUSD Superintendent, Dr. Mark McLaughlin and District staff presenting information on the state of our public schools, celebrating recent accomplishments and showcasing plans for the future.

Public School Volunteer Week 2026

We recognize the third week in April as Public School Volunteer Week, a time to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of volunteers in public education! Volunteers play a critical role in supporting the success of CVUSD students, teachers, support staff and our schools, while also promoting the importance of volunteering and community involvement.

The All District Music Festival returns this spring to the Kavli Theatre at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center, continuing a beloved community tradition in partnership with CVUSD and civic organizations. The festival will showcase more than 3,500 student musicians from across the Conejo Valley in ten nights of string, choir, and band performances on a world-class stage. 

Your Vote, Your Voice: Voter Education Weeks 2026

Did you know that California residents ages 16 and 17 who want to be future voters can pre-register to vote? California High School Voter Education Weeks are: September 15-26, 2025 and April 13-24, 2026 - making it a great time to take advantage of the Pre-Register to Vote opportunity.

Crossing Guard Appreciation Week 2026

The City of Thousand Oaks’ crossing guard services are now contracted through All City Management Services, which employs over 30 part-time crossing guards who help facilitate pedestrian crossings at 14 designated school intersections citywide, twice a day, five days a week, rain or shine!

Arab American Heritage Month April 2026

In 2021, the President of the United States officially recognized April as National Arab American Heritage Month. Arab American Heritage Month is a time to formally recognize the contributions and accomplishments of Arab Americans and to honor their community's rich history and heritage.

Principal for a Half Day Guests at Luncheon

Have you ever wondered what a typical day in the life of a local school principal is like? Well, on Monday, March 30th, community members had a unique opportunity to find out thanks to this annual partnership event with The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. Participants had the chance to observe classrooms, tour the schools, and gain insight into the exceptional educational experiences of students.

Olivia Johnson Receives Flowers and Awards for ISEF Honor

Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the 2026 Ventura County Science Fair. Together, they developed 49 award-winning projects, showcasing excellence in fields from Biochemistry to Environmental Engineering. Even more impressive: 14 of the top 35 scores came from Thousand Oaks High & Westlake High students, who are advancing to the California Science & Engineering Fair with Thousand Oaks' senior Olivia headed to the prestigious ISEF in May.

Turf Fields at NPHS, TOHS and WHS

Thanks to Measure I, the voter-approved school facilities bond, Newbury Park High, Thousand Oaks High, and Westlake High Schools now have brand new, beautiful tracks and fields. These recently completed projects have created safer, more durable, and visually stunning spaces for student athletes, physical education classes, and community use.

Newbury Park High School's Laila S. and Lily H. Achieve Perfect ACT Score

Congratulations to Laila S., Newbury Park High School 11th grade student and Lily H., Newbury Park High School 12th grade student on earning a perfect Composite score of 36 on the ACT, the highest possible score. This achievement on the ACT is not just outstanding; it’s exceptional. To put it in perspective, only about one-quarter of 1% of all test takers earn the top score.

TOHS Unveils Banner

In recognition of its exceptional commitment to inclusion, Thousand Oaks High was one of three schools selected to receive an in-person celebration during the 2025–2026 school year by Special Olympics and ESPN. The celebration tipped off at center court on Friday, March 20th, with Hall of Fame sportscaster Linda Cohn of ESPN congratulating the school for fostering a culture of belonging and inclusion.

Future School Year Calendar: 2027-2028 Now Available

The Board of Education for the Conejo Valley Unified School District approved the 2027-2028 School Year Calendar at the regularly scheduled Wednesday, March 18, 2025 Board of Education Meeting. This calendar, along with the 2026-2027 School Year and current School Year Calendars are available in the "Calendars" section of our website.

Revamped CTE Career Pathways Website Launches

Our CTE Career Pathways Program proudly offers students unique academic offerings to follow their passions and master strategic employability skills. To help students and families explore these opportunities, the District has recently relaunched its dedicated CTE Career Pathways Program website with the latest information highlighting the unique CTE opportunities available at our CVUSD high schools.

Congratulations 2026 California Distinguished Schools Awardee Los Cerritos Middle School

Congratulations to our Los Cerritos Middle School on being named one of 408 middle and high schools in the state selected for the prestigious 2026 California Distinguished Schools Program! This statewide recognition program highlights exceptional schools that distinguish themselves on the basis of exemplary student outcomes.

During the week of March 2, 2026, the CVUSD will proudly participate in Read Across America Week, a national event that encourages adults to inspire and support students in reading. CVUSD schools will host a variety of fun, reading-centered activities and events this week.

National Women's History Month

The CVUSD proudly celebrates National Women’s History Month this March. The 2026 National Women’s History Month theme is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” which focuses on the important role that women have played in creating environmental, economic, and social sustainability.

CVUSD Celebrates Lunar New Year - Fire Horse

February 17, 2026, will usher in the Lunar New Year for 2026 - the Year of the Fire Horse. CVUSD is committed to honoring and valuing the traditions and cultural significance of the Lunar New Year and the contributions and accomplishments of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Staff, students and community members are encouraged to learn about the history of Lunar New Year and celebrate with purposeful activities.

Westlake High's AcaDeca Team Receives 2nd Place Award at Ceremony

Congratulations to our Westlake High School Warriors on earning 2nd place in the 2026 Ventura County Academic Decathlon! The annual event, themed “The Roaring Twenties,” took place last month, with winners announced on February 9th. Nine high schools from across Ventura County participated with students from both Westlake High and Thousand Oaks High earning individual awards and recognitions.

A new Initiative from the State of California, the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), has made it possible for our CVUSD schools to directly be reimbursed by private health insurance plans for the mental health and wellness services provided to students on campus by our mental health clinicians and counselors. Learn how to participate in CYBHI, at no cost to you, and provide critical financial support for these on-campus services. 

Congratulations Westlake High Students Selected for Internship

Congratulations to Westlake High School 10th grade students Smrithi and Amelia for being selected for the highly competitive BOLT! (Biotechnology Opportunities for Leadership and Talent) Internship program through the AMGEN Biotech Experience. This is a prestigious student-focused program for high schoolers and undergraduates designed to explore the diverse and dynamic fields within biotechnology.

National School Counseling Week

School Counselors have a vital role in the academic, social, emotional, and career development of students. During National School Counseling Week, CVUSD celebrates the role of school counselors in removing barriers to student learning and providing all students the opportunity to succeed.

CVUSD Celebrates National Black History Month

This February CVUSD celebrates National Black History Month, a time to honor and commemorate the roles African Americans have played in our country's history. The first Black History Week was celebrated in 1926. To mark the 100-year legacy of honoring Black history, culture, and achievements the theme for the 2026 celebration is, “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”

The CVUSD, in proud partnership with the African American District Advisory Council (AADAC), cordially invites all CVUSD families to our Black History Month Celebration. This evening is dedicated to honoring the profound and enduring contributions African Americans have had and continue to make on our culture, history and community.

Our Instructional Services Team invites families to participate in two upcoming CVUSD Math Parent Webinars, designed to support student success in mathematics at every grade level. Two webinars will be hosted - one for elementary families and one for secondary families. Register to attend now.

Bike Rodeo and E-Bike Safety Event

The free, family-friendly Bike Rodeo & E-Bike Safety Event will take place on Saturday, January 24th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Redwood Middle School and is designed to help kids and families learn about essential bike and e-bike safety through hands-on activities and educational resources.

Please join the CVUSD's BreakThrough Student Assistance Program and The Conejo Schools Foundation for a free virtual workshop presented by Laura Stack of Johnny's Ambassadors: What Every Parent Should Know About Marijuana and Psychosis, on Thursday, January 29th, from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.

This holiday season, I share my utmost gratitude for you: our community of learners, teachers, staff members, families, volunteers and partner organizations who, together, make our school district the exceptional place it is to learn and grow. Excellence in the CVUSD takes shape in so many forms. Yet, none of it would be possible without the most important first step: showing up.

2025 Inclusion Heroes

In celebration of National Inclusive Schools Week, the CVUSD received a record 140 community nominations honoring our staff members who champion inclusion. We proudly present the 11 outstanding staff members selected as 2025 CVUSD Inclusion Heroes.

The week of December 8-12, 2025 is Inclusive Schools Week, an annual event nationally recognized that provides an opportunity for our schools to discuss and celebrate how to successfully include and educate all children. This year's theme is Children First: Building A Stronger Tomorrow.

Sequoia is an IB Candidate School

Our Sequoia Middle is a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Newbury Park High is working to expand its IB World School authorization to grades 9 and 10. Achieving authorization as an IB MYP school involves a comprehensive, multi-year process that demands careful planning, ongoing evaluation, and demonstrated commitment to IB standards.

2025 Holiday Toy Drive

We're proud to partner with Safe Passage Youth Foundation and the Conejo Schools Foundation for the annual holiday toy drive to benefit CVUSD students of all ages. Donate a new, unwrapped toy at our District Educational Center.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District is pleased to announce that Adrian Facio has been selected as the District’s new Risk Manager. Mr. Facio brings extensive experience in safety, risk management and compliance across multiple industries.

In honor of National Inclusive Schools Week (December 8-12), CVUSD would like to celebrate Inclusion Heroes at the December 17, 2025 Board of Education meeting. Nominate a teacher, staff member or administrator in recognition of their dedication to creating a community of inclusivity, kindness, and respect, which enhances learning for ALL students.

Enrollment for new CVUSD students for the 2026–2027 school year is officially open! Start your child on their path of educational excellence: complete the Neighborhood School Enrollment process available as of November 3, 2025 - the same date the School Choice Application and Interdistrict Transfer Form opens. 

CVUSD Celebrates Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month is observed annually in the United States during November to raise awareness of our nation's original inhabitants and descendants' culture, traditions, and achievements.

Congratulations to our Acacia Magnet School for Enriched Learning, Lang Ranch Elementary, Maple Elementary, Sycamore Canyon School and Walnut Elementary on being recognized as 2025 Educational Results Partnership (ERP) Honor Roll Schools for their high academic achievement and student success.

Red Ribbon Week, celebrated October 23-31, provides an opportunity to discuss drug-free choices and positively model for students by encouraging parents, staff, and students to wear symbolic red ribbons to make a visible statement that we are strongly committed to live a healthy life!

Unity Day - Wear Orange on October 22nd

The Conejo community is encouraged to wear orange on October 22nd to send a visible message of commitment to kindness, acceptance and inclusion! Unity Day has been celebrated in the United States and around the world since 2011.

TK Information Night

Register to attend our Transitional Kindergarten Information Night on Tuesday, October 28th at 6pm. This online event will share information about the TK learning experience, enrollment processes, child care opportunities available on our CVUSD campuses and more! 

26-27 School year enrollment opens november 3

In the CVUSD we are proud to offer a right fit for every student in our award-winning TK-12 schools. New for the 2026-2027 school year: Neighborhood School Enrollment for *new* CVUSD students will open on Monday, November 3, 2025 - the same date that the School Choice Application and Interdistrict Transfer Application opens.

Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15th to October 15th, is a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions, histories, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic/Latino/Latinx Americans.

September 1, 2025, marks the start of Attendance Awareness Month! This is a time to focus on the importance of attending school daily. CVUSD acknowledges that good attendance matters, and improving attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism takes commitment and collaboration.

We are proud to provide all students with a Chromebook through the District’s 1:1 Program. To support this program, CVUSD is offering a Chromebook Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) program for families to eliminate the concern and costs of repairing or replacing damaged, or stolen Chromebooks.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education recently approved an updated version of CVUSD Board Policy 5131.8 “Mobile Communication Devices,” which goes into effect this 2025-2026 school year. Stay informed and review the updated policy now. 

Student Injuries & Insurance: 2025-2026 School Year

The safety of our students is of critical importance to all of us and we want to protect them from injury. Even so, accidents do happen (at school and elsewhere) and required medical care can be expensive. Please know that your school does not assume responsibility for such costs but does offer you access to several student accident insurance plans for voluntary purchase.

CVUSD Cafeteria Cashless Payments

Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, all CVUSD school cafeterias will transition to a cashless payment system. Students will need to use funds preloaded onto their Parent Connect accounts to make all a la carte cafeteria purchases.

Beginning on Monday, June 16th, our Child Nutrition team is proud to provide summer lunch meals at no cost via meal distribution locations across the Conejo Valley and beyond. All children 2-18 years of age are eligible to receive FREE meals.
