      Chorus

      • The Walnut Chorus is presented through the cooperative efforts of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, the Conejo Valley Unified School District, and the Conejo Recreation and Park District.

        Chorus is open to all 2nd through 5th graders. Our rehearsals are after school on Wednesdays from 1:40-2:25. 
         
        Payment for each semester is $110.00 and can be made in full with a check, made payable to ACCV or Arts Council. Credit card payments are done by calling the Arts Council office 805-381-2747
        Payment plans, partial or full scholarships are also available.
        Forms are in the school office
         
        Our Walnut Chorus is directed by our Walnut School Music Specialist, Mrs. Ruth Drossel.      
         
         
         
        Why Chorus? 
        Chorus makes a significant contribution to a child's understanding and experience in school and other life experiences, 
        Chorus helps children build confidence through performance experiences.
        Chorus helps children develop social skills and concepts of teamwork and cooperation. 
        Chorus develops stronger and better readers. 
        Musical experiences help children develop creative, problem-solving skills. 
        Musical experiences impact the development of the inner ear, which positively impacts coordination and athletic ability. 
        Participation in musical performance teaches children to conquer fear and take positive risks. 
        But most of all, CHORUS IS FUN!!!

      • Band

        The band program at Walnut Elementary School is presented through the cooperative efforts of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, CVUSD and the CRPD, and is open to students in the 4th and 5th grade who want to learn to play a band instrument.

        Instruments Taught:
        Flute
        Clarinet
        Saxophone
        Trumpet
        Trombone
        Baritone
        Percussion

        Band is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays.

      • The Walnut Strings program is a parent-paid program presented through the cooperative efforts of the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, CVUSD and the Conejo Recreation & Park District. Instrumental music can enhance your child's educational experience through creative self-esteem, emotional release and satisfaction, discipline of achievements, cooperating and performing with fellow students.

        Meet the Teacher

        Katie Helms Banday

        Katie Helms Banday is a graduate of California Lutheran University where she received a Bachelors Degree in Music Performance in 2008 and a Teaching Credential in Music in 2011. Katie has been teaching violin privately since 2008 and worked as an assistant teacher for the Redwood Middle School Orchestra for three years.  She currently leads the Strings Program at Walnut Elementary and Earths Magnet School and teaches privately in Ventura and Newbury Park.
