Adam Payne-Director of Bands Payne received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from California State University at Northridge and his Master’s Degree in Conducting from Southern Oregon University. He has been the Band Director at Redwood Middle School since the fall of 1999.   He plays the saxophone and participates in the Gold Coast Wind Ensemble. He is a member of the Southern California Scholastic Band and Orchestra Association, California Band Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education and was the winner of the Herb Alpert Scholarship Program in 1989.



Mike Freed-Assistant Director

Mr. Freed has been working with bands in the Conejo Valley for over 15 years. He has taught elementary band at Sycamore Canyon, Conejo and Manzanita (now EARTHS) Elementary Schools.   He has been a section coach for the Ventura County Middle School Honor Band for the past nine years and his private low brass students have been members or principal players in the All State Honor Band, SCSBOA All Southern Honor Band, Ventura County High School and Middle School Honor Bands and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Great American Marching Band. Two of Mr. Freed's Drum Major students from Thousand Oaks HS were selected as Drum Majors for the U.S. Army All-American High School Marching Band. His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, California Music Educators Association, California Band Director’s Association and the Southern California Band and Orchestra Association as well as the International Tuba Euphonium Association.
Mr. Freed has been on staff for the Thousand Oaks High School Lancer Band since 1997 where he is currently Assistant Director. During that time he has conducted the Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band as well as several small ensembles. He has served as both a Brass and Marching Instructor.  In addition to working with the band, Mr. Freed spent three years as the Visual Instructor for the Spring Indoor Drumline. He has instructed at many local high schools and has been a recent brass clinician at Los Cerritos Middle School, Colina Middle School, E.O. Green Middle School, Newbury Park High School and Royal High School. He has been on the staff of several Drum and Bugle Corps including the 1998 World Class Semifinalist Kiwanis Kavaliers from Ontario, Canada and the 1999 World Class Finalist Colts from Dubuque, Iowa. 
Mr. Freed earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from California State University Northridge. He played both Euphonium and Tuba in the Wind Ensemble, Studio Ensemble Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, Brass Ensemble Tuba Quartet.  Recently he has played euphonium with the Los Angeles Pierce Symphonic Winds and performed with them at the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago and CBDA Conference in Fresno as well as international tours to Italy, France, England and Scotland. 
Mr. Freed currently works with the Redwood Beginning, Concert, Advanced and Symphonic Bands as well as the Viking Marching Band. He also serves as Assistant Director of the String Orchestra program under Mr. Ben Roberts.


Joe Martone-Percussion Instructor

Joe Martone is a studio percussionist, arranger, band leader, contractor, music producer and percussion educator hailing from Los Angeles, CA. 

Joe studied at California State University, Northridge, and received his Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance in 2012. 

In addition to studying Orchestral, Jazz, Brazilian, African, and Cuban percussion at Northridge, Joe has been a student to such Los Angeles percussionists as Brian Kilgore, Jerry Steinholtz, Joe Porcaro, Aaron Smith, John Magnussen, Don Williams, Pete Korpela, Mb Gordy and Walter Rodriguez.

He has also performed under John Debney, Gary Schyman, Richard Kaufman, Christopher Young, Bruce Broughton, Sean Callery and Frank Ticheli to name a few. And has performed with Dave Koz, Monica Mancini, Tyne Daly, Davis Gaines, Andy Garcia, Tom Scott, Arturo Sandoval, John Daversa, Blake McIver, and Phillip Phillips.

Joe is an Artist/Educator with Vic Firth and Black Swamp Percussion. He currently teaches percussion at Thousand Oaks High School, Newbury Park High School and Los Cerritos Middle School in addition to Redwood.


Denia Bradshaw-Flute Instructor


Denia Bradshaw, a graduate of Millikan High School in Long Beach, was a hall of Fame and John Phillip Sousa Band Award recipient. In 2008, she graduated with an Associates of Arts degree from Long Beach Community College, in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and in 2013 with a Master of Music from CSUN. Since then she has performed for Jimmy Carter and Harrison Ford and also played alongside artists such as Monica Mancini, Arturo Sandoval, and Sir James Galway. She has also done a variety of studio work, including venues like Capitol Records. She performs with the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Song of Angels Flute Orchestra.

Currently a member of the Music Teachers Association of California she serves as the Winds Chair for the San Fernando East Valley Branch and actively participates in the Certificate of Merit program with her private flute students. Denia is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at California State University, Los Ángeles.

Aside from going to school, performing, and teaching she holds a high interest and involvement with providing music for special needs teens and adults and works for a small non-proft called Reids Gift, Inc. She also continues to study and work with David Shostac.


Michele Predmore-French Horn Instructor

Janine Delwarte-Jazz Band Director

Janine Delwarte has earned her  B.A. at  California State University,Northridge and her M.A. at California Institute of the Arts, both degrees are in music education and performance.

Janine is the director of “The Conejo Valley Summer Music  Camp” and the “Elementary Instrumental Music Coordinator” for the district. She has performed throughout the world as a professional musician in all styles of music.

Miss Janine brings a broad musical perspective to her students.
