Meet the Masters at Maple!
This is Maple's eighth year participating in the Meet the Masters Art Program, an exciting standards-based art curriculum with over 25 years of experience in art education. This program is funded solely by the Maple PFA and is operated 100% by parent volunteers. The students will be learning about 5 famous artists, following a 3-step process led by our parent volunteers.
Step 1: "Introducing the Masters"
First, our students will learn about the fascinating lives and famous works of the Masters through a multimedia presentation, including visual images, artist voices, and music.
Step 2: "Learning from the Masters"
Then, our art docent (parent) volunteers undergo step-by-step training classes, where they are provided with all of the materials involved in each art project. The docents do not need to be artists themselves, but simply have the willingness to learn the lesson and participate in the hands-on art instruction, which then prepares them to teach the art lesson to the students.
Step 3: "Working with the Masters"
After learning the inspiration and techniques of the Master in the art lectures, our students will be ready for the real fun! Our classrooms transform into art studios as the art docents lead the students on a step-by-step journey through the art project. In the same medium, style, or subject matter as the Master, our students will discover their creativity while developing confidence in their own unique abilities.
Open House and Art Show: May 7,2019
The students will have the opportunity to select their favorite art piece from the five projects they created during the year. That art piece will be on display in the Art Show held during Open House.
