Los Cerritos Middle School belongs to the Conejo Valley Unified School District and is located in Thousand Oaks, California. The band department is run by David Blake. Band opportunities include beginning band, intermediate band, advanced band, and jazz band. Students are placed in these classes based on their individual level of skill. Jazz band is open to all sax, trumpet and trombone players as well as select percussion, guitar, bass and piano players. In addition to their daily music class, students can look forward to public performance in concerts and music festivals, and jazz competitions including the Reno jazz festival. We also host several fun activities such as playing Rock Band in the band room, trips to Disneyland and other theme parks, sleep-over parties at the school, middle school band night at the High School football games, performances with the High School jazz bands, honor bands and much, much more.
The LCMS Orchestra is directed by Liz Blake(yes, David and Liz are married). Mrs. Blake has been the Director of Orchestras at LCMS for 9 years. She has also held the same position at Westlake High School for the last four years. The orchestra program at LCMS includes Beginning Strings, Advanced Strings and Chamber Orchestra. Members of the Chamber Orchestra are selected by audition and meet at lunch, or after school for rehearsals. Under Mrs. Blake's direction, string orchestras from LCMS have received an unbroken string of superior ratings at local music festivals hosted by Moorpark and Thousand Oaks High Schools. Our string classes are a great place for students who already play, or want to play violin, viola, cello, or string bass.
