Interdistrict Transfer

Parents of students who reside outside of the CVUSD boundaries and wish for their student(s) to attend a CVUSD school must complete an Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form. Submit your Interdistrict Transfer Application to both your district of residence and CVUSD. Enrollment is contingent on your approved release from your district of residence.

Once approval is received from your district of residence email it to InterdistrictCVUSD@conejousd.org.
Your Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form must be approved by your district of residence and by CVUSD in order to enroll in a CVUSD school.

Step One

Complete the Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form and be sure to include a current email address on this form. Turn your application into your home district and send a copy to CVUSD. To be considered an on-time applicant for the 2026-2027 school year, CVUSD must receive a copy of the application and back up documentation that was turned into you Home district by February 2, 2026 at 11:59 PM.

• All submissions must include:
  Interdistrict Transfer Application filled out completely
• Rationale for transfer request and supporting documentation for your reason for transfer
• Student's full transcript (high school transcripts can be unofficial but MUST include ALL earned credits) and/or report cards
• Attendance report
• Behavior report (If the student has no discipline records this must be either supported by student database documentation or via a signed statement from a school official on district/school letterhead)
• Proof of residency (current utility bills)

If your student has a current 504 plan, annual review IEP, or triennial review IEP in place, a fully executed copy of the documentation is required to be submitted with the application.

Include documentation to support the request for transfer (i.e. Specialized Program, Continuing Enrollment, Change in Residence, etc.). Information detailing reason for request and required documentation can be found on the back page of the Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form. If none apply check ‘Other’ and include a letter explaining your rationale.

Step Two

Submit the completed Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form, all accompanying documentation AND documentation to support the request for transfer to your Home school District for processing and approval. Please provide a copy of the aforementioned Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form and supporting documents to the Interdistrict Transfer Office:

Interdistrict Transfer Applications are accepted for the 2026-2027 school year beginning on Monday, November 3rd through February 2, 2026. Submitting during this timeframe is considered an “on-time” submission. Applications submitted after February 2, 2026 at 11:59 PM will still be accepted but will be placed on a waitlist.

Interdistrict transfer requests for schools with wait lists may receive an approval/denial very late in the summer or just prior to the beginning of the 2026/27 school year.

Parents/guardians of prospective CVUSD students are welcome and encouraged to attend school  information/orientation nights and/or schedule a tour with school administration. Please call the school site(s) directly for more information and tour availability.

PLEASE NOTE:
Non-resident students cannot register, obtain a registration packet or select a class schedule until the Interdistrict transfer application has been approved by CVUSD. If there is a wait list to attend a school, applications will be placed on that list by the date the application is received in the Interdistrict Transfer Office. It must include the application (this includes the interdistrict transfer application, even if it is not yet approved by your district of residence) and all supporting documentation.

Once a decision has been made on your application you will receive an email from the Interdistrict Transfer office.

Approvals for Interdistrict Transfers will be sent out on the approximate following schedule:

• High School starting February 1, 2026
• Middle School starting March 1, 2026
• Elementary School starting April 1, 2026

The approved applications will also be sent to the school requested and to the district of residence. Once approved permits are received, parents and students should visit their selected school to register. You will be contacted by e-mail or phone if there are any questions regarding your application

Regarding Elementary School Interdistrict transfer requests, please note: it may not be known if space is available for your child until the summer months or possibly as late as the first day of school. In ALL cases you will receive a response via e-mail. NO action will be taken on Elementary Interdistrict Transfer applications unless and until a space is available, and can be offered. You will be contacted when space becomes available.

No. Effective January 1, 2011, AB 2444, incorporated into Education Code 46600, eliminated the requirement for an annual written release from the resident school district and approval from the receiving school district to remain enrolled in the receiving school district. Once released and approved, a student may remain at the approved school through the highest grade level at that school. Parents do need to submit an Interdistrict Transfer Agreement “permit” when their child promotes from elementary school to middle school or from middle school to high school. For example, a student approved to attend a TK-5 elementary school does not need additional approvals until they wish to enter a 6-8 middle school. A student approved for a 6-8 middle school does not need additional approvals until they wish to enter a 9-12 high school.

Please note: Interdistrict transfers may be revoked at any time due to poor attendance, failure to uphold appropriate behavior standards, and failure to make appropriate academic effort.

A permit may be revoked at any time by the district of enrollment for the following reasons:

• Student is excessively tardy or absent from school, or student is brought to school excessively early or picked up excessively late.
• Student fails to uphold appropriate academic efforts.
• Student fails to make appropriate academic efforts.
• False or misleading information was provided on the Interdistrict Transer Agreeement and/or accompanying documentation.
• Other conditions that occur that would render continuance inadvisable.

Families applying to Interdistrict Transfer out of CVUSD for the 2026-2027 school year will be informed of the status of their request for Interdistrict Transfers out of CVUSD beginning on March 1, 2026.

Once approved by CVUSD you will receive an email from the Interdistrict Transfer office with the approved/denied application. This email will also be sent to the district that you are wishing to transfer to.
