Westlake High Students Shine in National Spanish Language Competition

The Conejo Valley Unified School District is proud to congratulate the outstanding and dedicated Spanish language students from Westlake High School, who have once again demonstrated excellence on the 2026 National Spanish Exam (NSE), earning national recognition.

In this year's competition, the students proudly earned 8 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals, in addition to 11 honorable mentions. Earning a medal or honorable mention on the National Spanish Exam (NSE) is a testament to students’ dedication and hard work. Congratulations to:

The AATSP Exams is a program of the esteemed American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). With a rich history dating back to 1957, the National Spanish Exam (NSE) is administered annually to students in grades 6 through 12 and serves as a cornerstone of academic achievement in Spanish language education. As the largest assessment of its kind in the United States, over 83,000 students participated in 2026. Achieving gold, silver, or bronze status in the NSE opens doors for students to explore a variety of scholarship opportunities offered through the AATSP Exams program.

This success is not an isolated achievement but rather a reflection of the school’s longstanding tradition of excellence in Spanish language education. Students have consistently excelled on these exams, thanks to the guidance and expertise of their inspiring and committed Spanish teachers: Audrey Citraro-Rollins, Colleen Darden, Xochitl Ortega, and Diane Rudas.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students who participated in the competition and commend them for their hard work, determination, and commitment to mastering the Spanish language.
