The Annual State of the Schools Event Returns May 7th
The Conejo Schools Foundation hosts the annual State of the Schools event on Thursday, May 7th with CVUSD Superintendent, Dr. Mark McLaughlin and District staff presenting information on the state of our public schools, celebrating recent accomplishments and showcasing plans for the future.
The event will take place at California Lutheran University - Lundring Event Center (130 Overton Ct, Thousand Oaks) with a reception from 5pm to 6pm and the address from 6pm to 7pm.
This is a great opportunity to celebrate and learn more about our CVUSD schools.

This year, California High School Voter Education Weeks are: September 14-25, 2026 and April 12-23, 2027 - making now a great time to take advantage of the Pre-Register to Vote opportunity offered by the state of California.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated nationwide from September 15th to October 15th to honor the contributions that Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx Americans have made to our nation and society. The theme for this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month is: “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.”

Thirteen students from Newbury Park High School and Westlake High School were among the more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. This program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability.

Our Maple Elementary School in Newbury Park is embracing a new schoolwide focus built around a simple belief: Where Learning Lives Outdoors. This philosophical shift is one that will benefit students of all grade levels at Maple, and includes: daily outdoor learning experiences, a low-tech emphasis and impactful community partnerships.

September 1, 2026, marks the start of Attendance Awareness Month! This is a time to focus on the importance of attending school daily. Studies show that students who keep a consistent attendance rate are more likely to succeed academically.
