Leadership in Action: Conejo Academy Students Give Back

On Wednesday, December 10th - six students from our Conejo Academy of Leadership and Language Immersion shared how they identified a need in the community, applied for a grant through the Time for Change Youth Challenge, and used their awards to make a positive impact!

These students used creative thinking to recognize a problem or community need, developed a plan for how it could be addressed, and collaborated with others to bring their ideas to life. After submitting their proposals to the Time for Change Youth Challenge, each student earned a $50 grant to support their cause. They then had the opportunity to purchase items and present them to their recipients during a special schoolwide assembly.

Learn more about each grantee’s cause:

  • Kanan, Grade 4: His grant is supporting Conejo Academy with new recess equipment (sand toys); Campus supervisors received the items during the special assembly.

  • Samara, Grade 3: Her grant is supporting Conejo Closet (100 umbrellas for CVUSD students in need) and Conejo Academy Kindergarten and TK Teachers (4 large umbrellas); Amber Bowman, CVUSD’s Student Support Services (Conejo Closet) received the gifts for Conejo Closet and Mrs. Jimeno/Ms. Adler received the gifts on behalf of the TK and Kindergarten teachers. *Samara qualified as a finalist and received an additional $200 grant to support her cause!
