CVUSD Earns National Recognition for Championing Music Education

The Conejo Valley Unified School District is proud to share it has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) Award from The NAMM Foundation! This award is a testament to CVUSD's outstanding support and commitment to music education. Now in its 27th year, the program continues to spotlight and celebrate school districts and individual schools across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and their ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning as part of a well-rounded education. This is the second time CVUSD has earned this recognition, first receiving the award in 2024.

The CVUSD is one of 1,008 school districts in the nation to earn the 2026 Best Communities for Music Education Districts distinction for outstanding achievement in providing access to high-quality music education. The award reaches K-12 communities nationwide, offering both recognition and momentum to strengthen and expand music education programs.

Recipients of the 2026 BCME Awards were selected through a comprehensive application and review process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. To uphold the program’s rigor and credibility, all applications were independently reviewed and verified by WolfBrown, a leading research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts.

The CVUSD is dedicated to excellence in Music Education, and is proud to be the first district in Ventura County to have a Strategic Arts Education Plan. CVUSD’s Plan contains the following pillars:

  •  Strategic Direction #1: Developing and Providing Excellence in Arts Curriculum, Instruction & Professional Learning
    • Outcome: Well Articulated Visual Arts & Performing Arts Curriculum with Inclusive Learner Supports.
       
  • Strategic Direction #2: Ensuring High-Quality Staffing, Supported with Time & Resources
    •  Outcome: Well Resourced Arts Programs with Staffing and Infrastructure. The Value of the Arts is Demonstrated through Dedicated Time, Space, Equipment and Supplies for the Arts.
       
  • Strategic Direction #3: Expanding and Deepening Community Connections & Communications
    • Outcome: Ongoing, Expanded Community Connections and Communications.
       
  • Strategic Direction #4: Providing Sustainability for Arts Education through Policies and Funding
    • Outcome: Arts Education Policies and Equitable Funding Supporting all students and programs sustainably over time.

Olivia Johnson on stage of Regeneron ISEF competition

Olivia Johnson, 12th grade Lancer, won a Special Award in the prestigious International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which was held in Phoenix, Arizona this week. Olivia was one of more than 1,700 young scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and inventors representing more than 67 countries, regions and territories who participated in the annual event, now in its 76th year.

Congratulations 25-26 Retirees and Employee Service Award Recipients

At the center of our CVUSD community are our dedicated employees who make invaluable contributions to our community of learners. We share our utmost gratitude for the more than 40 exceptional educators, administrators and staff members who have reached the well-deserved milestone of retirement. We also celebrate employees who have reached significant milestones of service this school year: 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, 30 years and 35 years. 

The Resilience Advantage: Raising Strong, Gritty and Confident Children

Join us on Tuesday, May 26th at 6pm for an engaging and insightful parent/guardian workshop as we discuss the challenges of raising children in today’s complex world. This free workshop hosted by our BreakThough Student Assistance Program and the Conejo Schools Foundation will provide support, guidance, and practical tools.
