CVUSD Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15th to October 15th, is a time to celebrate the achievements, contributions, histories, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic/Latino/Latinx Americans.

National Hispanic Heritage Month began as a week-long observance in 1968, expanded to a month-long observance in 1988, and was enacted into law that same year on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

September 15 was chosen as the starting date for this important celebration because it is the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries.

Hispanic, Latino, and Latinx Americans have been integral to the prosperity, power, and progress of the United States, with their significant contributions to the economic, political, and social growth of our nation.

The Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education encourages educators, students, and families to celebrate this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month’s theme, "Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future," by educating students on the culture (literature, art, music, dance), languages, traditions, cuisine, and positive contributions Hispanic, Latino and Latinx Americans have made in our country, district, and community.

At the Wednesday, August 13, 2025 Board of Education Meeting, Resolution #25/26-01 In Support of National Hispanic Heritage Month (English - Spanish) was approved.
