CVUSD Celebrates National Black History Month

This February CVUSD celebrates National Black History Month, a time to honor and commemorate the roles African Americans have played in our country's history; and acknowledge that African Americans have contributed economically, culturally, and socially to the development of the United States history.

The first Black History Week was celebrated in 1926. To mark the 100-year legacy of honoring Black history, culture, and achievements the theme for the 2026 celebration is, “A Century of Black History Commemorations.” This theme also underscores the continued importance of acknowledging and celebrating the enduring impact of African Americans throughout our nation’s history.

African Americans have made profound contributions across various fields—including politics, the arts, and sciences—demonstrating perseverance that has helped shape the United States.

Black History Month allows us to reflect on the impact pioneers and leaders of the Black community have had on our nation and celebrate the legacy these leaders have left for future generations.

The Board of Education approved Resolution #25/26-22: In Support of National Black History Month at the January 14, 2026 Board of Education Meeting.

Conejo Valley Unified School District is committed to honoring and valuing African Americans' legacy, experiences, and contributions, not just during February, but yearlong.
