Congratulations to CVUSD’s November 2025 Teacher of the Month: Maribel Reyes of Sequoia Middle!

Congratulations to CVUSD’s November 2025 Teacher of the Month: Maribel Reyes of Sequoia Middle!
Maribel Reyes

Maribel Reyes is a true community builder, she works hard to create partnerships between home and school, which is one of the many reasons students in her class thrive. A Science Teacher at Sequoia Middle School since 2020, Ms. Reyes is a master of curriculum standards, Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) guidelines and is actively embracing the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework. We and the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce are proud to recognize Ms. Reyes as the Conejo Valley Unified School District November 2025 Teacher of the Month!

Ms. Reyes is an invaluable leader on the Sequoia campus where she is an active participant in the IB Steering Committee, sharing valuable insights in the creation of policies around inclusion, assessment, language and academic integrity. As Sequoia Middle School moves forward as a Candidate School for the IB Middle Years Programme, Ms. Reyes has been implementing IB philosophies, activities and grading in the classroom.

She is also a key “connector” on campus, who organizes monthly after-school activities for staff members to attend, she warmly welcomes others, and goes out of her way to help colleagues. Not to mention, she makes spirit days fun with costumes that do not disappoint.

In addition to creating bonds and supporting the school’s broader mission, she also makes sure her students feel cared for and understood. At the beginning of each school year, she gathers information from students and their families to differentiate and build engaging learning opportunities for all students in the classroom. She recognizes and values the experiences and identities of all students, providing a learning environment that is inclusive and equitable. She acknowledges that each student brings traditions and customs from home and celebrates them in the classroom.

At the Tuesday, November 4th Sequoia Middle School staff meeting, Ms. Reyes was surprised with the November 2025 Teacher of the Month recognition. She was presented with a commemorative plaque from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce to honor her special recognition, along with a $300 teacher grant from the Conejo Schools Foundation, and received congratulatory wishes from CVUSD’s leadership team and members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee.

Congratulations Ms. Reyes on this well-deserved honor, which celebrates the positive impact you make on the Sequoia community each and every day!

Inquiry-Based Learning Ahead

Our Sequoia Middle is a Candidate School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Newbury Park High is working to expand its IB World School authorization to grades 9 and 10. Achieving authorization as an IB MYP school involves a comprehensive, multi-year process that demands careful planning, ongoing evaluation, and demonstrated commitment to IB standards.
