Congratulations to CVUSD’s Nine National Merit® Scholarship Program Semifinalists!

Congratulations to CVUSD’s Nine National Merit® Scholarship Program Semifinalists!

Congratulations to the nine CVUSD high school students who were announced last week as Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit® Scholarship Program.

The National Merit® Scholarship Program honors individual scholars who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Students from Newbury Park High School and Westlake High School were among the more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 2026 National Merit® Scholarship Program, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, including the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Please join us in congratulating the following CVUSD scholars:

  • Alexander B., WestlakeHigh School
  • Cameron D., Newbury Park High School
  • Khushi G., Westlake High School
  • Chenya K., Westlake High School
  • Angela L., Westlake High School
  • Sylvia L., Newbury Park High School
  • Chloe W., Westlake High School
  • Krystal W., Westlake High School
  • Benjamin X., Westlake High School

These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,930 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.

MSC, a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by about 300 business organizations, higher education institutions, and individual donors that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.

Congratulations to these scholars on their incredible accomplishment!
