Congratulations to CVUSD’s Nine 2025-2026 California State PTA Reflections Art Program Awardees!
“I Belong!” is the theme for this year’s PTA Reflections contest where students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade were encouraged to create an original artwork that expresses their interpretation of this year’s theme in one or more of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and/or Visual Arts.
We would like to congratulate the following CVUSD students for moving through multiple, competitive rounds of judging and thousands of entries to earn the following state-level awards for their unique art submissions:
Award of Excellence - California State PTA Reflections:
- Rowan Zollars - 7th grader - Sycamore Canyon School - Dance Choreography
- Hayden Lawrence - 6th grader - Redwood Middle School - Film Production
*The art submissions from Rowan and Hayden have advanced to the National portion of the competition, and are eligible for additional awards and recognition to be announced in May.

Reflections has brought the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969, increasing community awareness of the importance of arts in education, and encouraging students of all ages to:

- Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
- Receive positive recognition for their original works of art.

Our Maple Elementary School in Newbury Park is embracing a new schoolwide focus built around a simple belief: Where Learning Lives Outdoors. This philosophical shift is one that will benefit students of all grade levels at Maple, and includes: daily outdoor learning experiences, a low-tech emphasis and impactful community partnerships.

September 1, 2026, marks the start of Attendance Awareness Month! This is a time to focus on the importance of attending school daily. Studies show that students who keep a consistent attendance rate are more likely to succeed academically.

CVUSD high school students who are currently enrolled in the 11th and 12th grade and have an interest in graphic design, video production, social media content creation, photography, website design and writing/journalism are encouraged to apply.

There is always something special about the beginning of a new school year. Our campuses come back to life, classrooms fill with students, activities and athletics begin again, and we are reminded of the key objective that inspires us: empowering every student to succeed.
