Community Service Opportunity: Our Measure I Bond Oversight Committee Seeks Senior Citizens' Organization Representative

The Conejo Valley Unified School District is seeking an interested, qualified individual to serve on its Independent Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee as a Senior Citizens' Organization representative.

The committee is charged with informing the public concerning the District’s expenditure of Measure I bond proceeds, reviewing expenditure reports, and preparation and presentation of an annual report. The committee meets at least once per year, but not more frequently than monthly.

Additional Information about the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee:

Proposition 39 Bond Election
On November 4, 2014, voters residing within the Conejo Valley Unified School District passed Measure I. Measure I is a $197,000,000 bond measure that authorizes funding for needed repairs, upgrades, and new construction projects to the District’s schools. Proposition 39 required a 55% supermajority for approval; Measure I was passed by 65.28%.

Establishment of a Citizens Bond Oversight Committee 
After a bond authorized under Proposition 39 is passed, state law requires that the Conejo Valley Unified School District Board of Education appoint an Independent Citizens Bond Oversight Committee to work with the District.

Committee Responsibilities
In accordance with Education Code Section 15278(b), the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee shall: 

  • Inform the public concerning the District's expenditure of Measure I bond proceeds;
  • Review expenditure reports produced by the District to ensure that Measure I bond proceeds were expended only for the purposes set forth in Measure I; and
  • Present to the Board of Education in public session, an annual written report outlining their activities and conclusions regarding the expenditure of Measure I bond proceeds.

Appointment of Committee Members
All appointments will be made by the Board of Education by selection through the application and paper screening process, interviews if needed, or the return of interested committee members.

Time Commitment and Term
Each member shall serve a term of two years, commencing as of the date of appointment by the Board of Education. No member may serve more than three consecutive terms.

The annual event, themed “The Roaring Twenties,” took place last month, with winners announced on February 9th. Nine high schools from across Ventura County participated with students from both Westlake High and Thousand Oaks High earning individual awards and recognitions.

Sustaining Student Mental Health & Wellness

A new Initiative from the State of California, the California Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), has made it possible for our CVUSD schools to directly be reimbursed by private health insurance plans for the mental health and wellness services provided to students on campus by our mental health clinicians and counselors. Learn how to participate in CYBHI, at no cost to you, and provide critical financial support for these on-campus services. 

Two Westlake High Scholars Selected for Competitive Amgen Biotechnology Internship

Congratulations to Westlake High School 10th grade students Smrithi and Amelia for being selected for the highly competitive BOLT! (Biotechnology Opportunities for Leadership and Talent) Internship program through the AMGEN Biotech Experience. This is a prestigious student-focused program for high schoolers and undergraduates designed to explore the diverse and dynamic fields within biotechnology.
