The Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) is seeking qualified community members to apply for appointment to the Personnel Commission and respectfully requests your assistance in sharing this opportunity with those who may be interested in serving.

The Personnel Commission is an independent three-member body that oversees the District’s Merit System for classified employees and helps ensure that employment practices are conducted fairly, impartially, and based on merit and fitness.

A vacancy will occur upon the expiration of Commissioner Rose Jeffrey’s term. The appointment will be for a three-year term beginning December 1, 2026, and ending December 1, 2029.

Commissioners are required to be registered voters, reside within the district boundaries of CVUSD, and shall be known adherents on the principle of the merit system – meaning a candidate who by nature of his/her prior public or private service has given evidence that he/she supports the concept of employment, continuance in employment, in service promotional opportunities, and other related matters on the basis of merit and fitness. No member of the governing board of any school district or county board of Education shall be eligible for appointment, reappointment or continuance as a member of the Commission. While current employees may apply to serve as a Commissioner, if appointed, the employee is required to resign/ retire from his/her employment prior to the start of the term.

As part of the selection process, applicants will be invited to attend an open-session public meeting of the Personnel Commission in late August (date to be determined). During the meeting, candidates will have an opportunity to discuss their interest in serving on the Commission and share their qualifications for the role.

Following the interview process, the Personnel Commission anticipates making a tentative selection by August 31, 2026.

The Personnel Commission consists of three commissioners who serve staggered three-year terms. Commissioners play an important role in protecting the integrity of the Merit System and supporting fair and equitable personnel practices for classified employees.

We encourage civic-minded individuals with experience in human resources, public administration, labor relations, organizational leadership, community service, or related fields to consider applying.

Commissioners are eligible to receive compensation at a rate of fifty dollars ($50) per meeting, not to exceed two-hundred fifty ($250) per month. The members of the Commission have also been approved to participate in the District’s health, dental and vision insurance programs.
