A Voice for Students: Meet Finn Kerns, Student Board Trustee for the 2025-2026 School Year

A Voice for Students: Meet Finn Kerns, Student Board Trustee for the 2025-2026 School Year

Please join us in welcoming Finn Kerns to his role as the Student District Advisory Committee (SDAC) Student Board of Education Representative for the 2025-2026 academic year!

Mr. Kerns is a student at Thousand Oaks High School with a passion for public service. Beginning as a representative for Thousand Oaks High School on CVUSD’s Student District Advisory Committee (SDAC), Finn was soon elected Vice Chairperson and then, most recently, elected Chairperson. Throughout his time on SDAC, Mr. Kerns has focused on involving student leadership in the community, and especially on the school sites, with social media campaigns, school site events, and inviting student groups to SDAC. Beyond SDAC, Mr. Kerns has served as an intern at the District Office of Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, strengthening his community outreach skills while helping the constituents of Assembly District 42. Mr. Kerns also brings public service to the courtroom by working at the Ventura County Public Defender's Office during his sophomore and junior summers, which led him to develop a strong dedication to serving every member of the community.

Mr. Kerns brings these professional experiences with him to the position of Student Board Trustee and is excited to engage the community not only in student leadership but in the Board of Education as a whole. Community engagement is the hallmark of Mr. Kerns' plan for his term on the Board, and he looks forward to all students knowing they have a voice at the district level and can participate in the discussions we have. Mr. Kerns believes that public education is the most important function of government, and is honored to have this opportunity to help ensure all CVUSD students thrive.

This is the seventh consecutive year that a student from the Student District Advisory Committee (SDAC) will serve as a Student Board of Education Representative.

Student Board Trustees

SDAC is made up of approximately 3-7 students from each high school site. The Student DAC representatives meet once a month with CVUSD Assistant Superintendents and Directors to discuss policies, events and important topics concerning students and the district. More about the mission/purpose of SDAC and the scheduled meeting dates for the 2025-2026 school year is available on the dedicated SDAC webpage: www.conejousd.org/SDAC.

SDAC welcomes student input at their meetings via public comment. Students can also communicate with SDAC via their Instagram, and through outreach to any of the SDAC representatives from CVUSD's five high school sites.

Welcome, Mr. Kerns! We look forward to having you on the dais for the 2025-2026 school year!
