Newbury Park High School Teacher Named March Teacher of the Month

Janet Kay Conner receives special recognition from Chamber of Commerce, District

The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Conejo Valley Unified School District to shine a light on educators throughout the 2016-2017 school year with its Teacher of the Month recognition program.

In a surprise celebration on Wednesday, March 15th Janet Kay Conner of Newbury Park High School was named CVUSD’s March Teacher of the Month. Janet currently teaches sections of English 12 College Preparatory, English 12 International Baccalaureate Higher Level and Theory of Knowledge. She also served as the school’s English department chair from 2009-2015 and has coached the NPHS speech team.

Janet has been a teacher in CVUSD at Newbury Park High School for 15 years and counting. She was selected as Teacher of the Month because of her dedication to engaging and supporting all students in learning by demonstrating the following key criteria:

1. Open doors by recognizing diverse needs of learners

2. Exhibit high professional standards

3. Engages with families and the community

Janet is a gifted educator who has absolute confidence in the ability and potential of all of her students and holds them to standards that are rigorous and inspiring. She instills her colleagues with the same sense of dynamic growth that she inspires in NPHS students by conducting teacher workshops that align the rigorous standards with student performance expectations.

Janet never stops thinking about how to incorporate current news or contemporary strategies into each dynamic day in the classroom, ensuring all students are engaged, informed and motivated to succeed.

She was also recently recognized by the California Association of IB World Schools (CAWS) as the “Exemplary International Baccalaureate High School Teacher of the Year.”

To celebrate Janet’s March Teacher of the Month recognition, members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce congratulated her with gifts from their local businesses. Additionally, members from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and CVUSD Superintendent, Dr. Ann Bonitatibus presented Janet with a commemorative plaque recognizing her achievement.

Thank you Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce members and congratulations Janet!
