The California State Board of Education (SBE) recently took the final steps in approving this groundbreaking new accountability and continuous improvement system. The new accountability and continuous improvement system monitors multiple measures of progress, including high school graduation rates, English and math test scores, career and college readiness, suspension rates and English learner progress.
The system will provide a wealth of new information that can guide parents, highlight schools’ and districts’ strengths and weaknesses, identify disparities among student groups, and help educators design and implement improvement strategies. It is anticipated the system will be available in March of 2017 and it will be displayed in an easy-to-understand report card format. It replaces the Academic Performance Index (API), which relied solely on test scores to produce a single number for school and district evaluation.
