Congratulations Karla Stevenson of Sequoia Middle – CVUSD’s September Teacher of the Month!
This educator’s got the beat! Karla Stevenson of Sequoia Middle School is innovative, engaging and passionate about forming connections between students and the content she teachers. She has been a dedicated educator at Sequoia Middle School for more than 25 years and currently leads classes in Digital Production, Music Appreciation and Principles of Computer Science. The Conejo Valley Unified School District and our community partners the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce are proud to recognize Mrs. Stevenson as the Teacher of the Month – September 2020!
Mrs. Stevenson is the type of person and educator that beats to their own drum, which makes it easy for her to connect and build relationships. Forming a sense of community is key to her leadership style. She goes out of her way to help people connect and to promote school belonging.
She uses innovation in her teaching approaches, and actively encourages students and staff to explore new technology platforms and how to incorporate them into their learning and teaching. She also recognizes the importance of collective efficacy and involves students in their learning and assessment process.
Mrs. Stevenson has an unmatched spirit of volunteerism, serving on a plethora of committees both at site and district levels that help support and inspire the school community.
She makes people smile and gives them the boost they may need with daily positive “tweets.”
She is well-known for inviting parents or visiting district administrators to play musical instruments in band class and instilling a passion for music in students.
Mrs. Stevenson believes in the power of connections and inclusivity and provides the “Monster Cave” as a neutral ground for students to do homework or chat with friends and have fun.
On Wednesday, October 14th the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Conejo Valley Unified School District surprised Mrs. Stevenson with the October 2020 Teacher of the Month recognition during Sequoia Middle School’s regularly scheduled, virtual staff meeting. Dr. Mark McLaughlin, CVUSD Superintendent of Schools, presented Mrs. Stevenson with a “virtual commemorative plaque” (a plaque will be delivered to Mrs. Stevenson). Thank you Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce for your continued partnership for the Teacher of the Month Recognition program. We are proud to kick off the Teacher of the Month recognitions for the 2020-2021 school year with Mrs. Stevenson, an extraordinary teacher, and human being – as CVUSD’s September 2020 Teacher of the Month – congratulations!
