Human Growth and Development is about the process of growth beginning with pre-adolescence through adolescence. At the elementary and middle school levels, a program is presented to students in grades 4, 5, and 6 to provide them with a fact-based understanding of the changes in their physical development.

Parent/Guardian Preview Letter

Every year, CVUSD provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to preview the Human Growth and Development films, which are part of the Health Education for fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students. This year’s preview events will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 (complete details available here). District staff and nurses will be available at these events to answer questions.  CVUSD parents/guardians can also preview the films online until February 15, 2021 by going to bit.ly/CVUSDvideopreview

"Just Around The Corner: For Girls" (No. 9563)
Video covers when to expect the onset of puberty, physical and emotional changes, maturation of the female reproductive system, menstruation, importance of good hygiene and healthy habits, and maintaining health through good nutrition and exercise.

"Just Around The Corner: For Boys" (No. 9564)
Video covers when to expect the onset of puberty, physical and emotional changes, maturation of the male reproductive system, common experiences of puberty, importance of good hygiene and healthy habits, and maintaining health through good nutrition and exercise.

"Growing Up! For Girls" (No. 9558)
Video covers the female reproductive system, the emotional and physical transformations of puberty, and the importance of good health and hygiene is geared toward encouraging a positive body image and a sense of personal worth.

"Growing Up! For Boys" (No. 9559)
Video covers basics of male anatomy, advice on health, hygiene and grooming. Video fosters the self-esteem that comes with accepting new responsibilities.

"A Baby Is Born" (No. 9547)
This video is designed for an audience of both boys and girls. The video covers human reproduction, including information about conception, pregnancy, fetal growth and development, and genetics. Video describes various human physical characteristics, explains how and why sex cells and hormones are produced and relates this to the biological process of fertilization.

"We're Growing Up" (No. 9560)
This video is designed for an audience of both boys and girls. The video talks human growth in a comfortable and matter-of-fact manner. Video covers the growth of a baby in the womb, and quickly through childhood to adolescence. Video reviews male and female anatomy, sexual development, and an emphasis on responsible choices.
