The internship opportunity is open to high school students in the Conejo Valley Unified High School District. There are no prerequisites and no minimum GPA required. There is an application and interview process. Student intern(s) will work collaboratively with the District's Communication team and independently to complete projects and assignments. Ideal candidates have a passion for journalism and digital communications, work collaboratively with others in a team setting, excel while working independently, and are eager to learn. The internship is non-paid, however, student(s) who complete a full semester will receive a certificate of completion and a letter of recommendation upon request.
Intern(s) will cover news and events happening throughout the entire school district. The specialties covered in the program consist of: journalism - with the opportunity to have a byline on news content posted to the District’s website, video production, marketing, graphic design - including flyer and brochure design, creating promotional materials, social media content, website design and more.
Time commitment for this program is estimated to be about two to four hours per week, with the opportunity to complete internship projects at the District Educational Office located at 1400 E. Janss Road in Thousand Oaks. Time commitment may vary weekly, is flexible, and may be based on projects (pitched and/or selected by student(s). Intern(s) may be assigned to “beats” based on their interests and the communication needs of specific elementary and/or middle school sites.
