The Art Masters program gives Westlake Elementary students a total art education and learning experience that strengthens creative-thinking, improves content retention and recall, enhances aesthetic judgment and yields higher levels of creativity.
The Art Masters hands on studio art activities enable our student artists to create their own individual works of art using the artwork, techniques, styles, media, and disciplines used by world famous artists. Students learn first-hand how art media and elements relate to the artists techniques, styles, design and the historic time period.
Parent involvement is vital in helping make the Art Masters Program a success! All of you who love to cut, stack, and fold paper—here's your chance to help!
The program is looking for volunteers! Docents Volunteers (parent classroom helpers) are needed to teach classroom art. This is a wonderful way to help in your child’s classroom with a very user-friendly art program. You don't need to be an Artist to participate! The lessons are designed with step by step instructions for the kids to follow. Help is also needed during the school year for a few hours per month to help organize the six lessons for the docents and students. To donate Art Supplies or Paper OR to volunteer to be a Docent, please contact us and our parent coordinator will be in touch.
Typically, the student lectures are held on Tuesdays and the Docent training is held on Thursday. Please check with your child’s teacher to find out the schedule for the in class projects.
The Art Masters programs are in-class developed and classroom tested. All materials and techniques go through four years of writing, field testing and editing to ensure the highest quality educational standards. Curriculum is fully compliant with California standards for visual arts, as well as legal compliance with the California State Department of Education.
