Finals Week - Monday, June 09, 2014
You made it to the end! Use your discussion questions and vocab lists (also listed under the 9CP section) to study for your final. The last set of discussion questions is due on Tuesday. Bring any extra bathroom passes that you might have to turn in for extra credit on Tuesday as well. 
June 2-6 Homework - Monday, June 02, 2014
Vocab definitions due Tuesday. Be prepared for a few of your words to show up on Friday's reading quiz and then again on your final exam. Read through Ch. 21 by Wednesday and Ch. 23 by Friday. Continue to work on your discussion questions (due next Tuesday 6/10). Bring your green literature book to return on to the library on Friday. 
May 28-30 Homework - Tuesday, May 27, 2014
Lots of reading this week! Don't fall behind. Reading for Ch. 13-16 due Wednesday and Ch. 17-19 due Friday. You will get your last set of Hunger Games vocab words on Thursday, but you do not have a vocab quiz this week. Keep up with your last set of discussion questions for Hunger Games (due date next week). 
May 19-23 Homework - Monday, May 19, 2014
Vocab definitions for list #2 are due on Tuesday. The test is THURSDAY of this week, not Friday. Read through Chapter 12 by Friday. Your discussion questions for Part 1 are due on Friday as well. 
May 12-16 Homework - Monday, May 12, 2014
Rough Draft AND Works Cited due tomorrow (print a hard copy--the rough draft does not need to be submitted to turnitin.com). Vocab definitions due Wednesday (copied down in class on Monday). Read up to pg. 114 in The Hunger Games by Tuesday. Final draft of research paper, including Works Cited, due Friday (hard copy and turnitin by 11:59 pm). Remember, you will lose 5 points a day off of your paper for each day that is it not submitted to turnitin.com by the assigned date. After 8 days, the paper will receive a zero. Submit early if you know you are going to be out of town or out of reach of a computer! 
May 5-9 Homework - Monday, May 05, 2014
Step 2 of research paper (2 source cards & 8 note cards) due Tuesday. Typed outline (Step 3) is due on Thursday. Remember, no late work is accepted for this assignment. If you are sick on the day a step is due, you need to find a way to get it here. You can always email me in the morning if you are having issues. Read through Chapter 3 by Thursday...expect a quiz. We will be in the library on Wednesday and Friday for the research paper. 
April 28-May 2 Homework - Monday, April 28, 2014
Step 1 of your Greek Mythology research paper is due on Wednesday (name of god/goddess written on handout, parent signature, 10 index cards with lines. Please note that there will be NO LATE WORK OF ANY KIND accepted for this assignment. The due date for the notecards and sourcecards has been moved to Tuesday 5/6 (the original due date was Friday 5/2). Please change this on your research handout. Bring your Hunger Games book or ID card on Wednesday. We will be in the Warrior Lab on Thursday to begin research. Even though the date has been changed, you should be working on your notecards and sourcecards throughout the week. Begin bringing Hunger Games each day beginning Friday. 
April 22-25 Homework - Tuesday, April 22, 2014
Act 4 motives/consequences chart due on Wednesday. Reader response questions (copied down in class on Tuesday) due on Thursday in journal. Acts 4-5 quiz (25 points) on Friday. Heads up for next week: Act 5 motives/cons chart due Monday 4/28. You will need a two pocket folder and a pack of index cards by Wednesday 4/30 for your upcoming research paper. 
April 7-11 Homework - Monday, April 07, 2014
R & J Business Letter rough draft and brainstorm due Wednesday 4/9. Final draft (typed) due on Friday 4/11. You will need to bring a hard copy to class AND submit to turnitin.com by Friday at 11:59 pm. You will lose 5 points a day for each day that your letter is not submitted after the due date. March 31-April 4 Homework - Monday, March 31, 2014
Act 3 quiz on Friday (same format as last two act quizzes). Motives and consequences chart for Mercutio also due on Friday. No vocab list this week. See me before Wednesday if you need to make up a test or quiz from last week. Create your own discussion questions assignment due Thursday. March 24-28 Homework - Monday, March 24, 2014
Act 2 quiz on Thursday. I will also collect your Act 2 discussion questions and motives and consequences chart on Thursday. Act 3 vocab will be passed out in class on Monday. You will have a vocab quiz on Friday for these words (same format as last week). 
March 17-21 Homework - Monday, March 17, 2014
Act 1 discussion questions and motives and consequences chart (just front side for Romeo) due on Tuesday. Use both of these resources to study for your Act 1 quiz, which will also take place on Tuesday. The quiz will include short answer questions, multiple choice, and quote and literary term identification. You will get your Act 2 vocab list in class on Monday and will have another vocab quiz on Friday. Vocab practice homework is due on Thursday (the assignment is listed under the 9CP section to the left). 
March 10-14 Homework - Monday, March 10, 2014
Bring your Romeo and Juliet book each day (if you bought a copy, but I also have a class set available). 20 question vocab quiz on Wednesday based on your Act 1 vocab from R & J. This quiz will require you to plug the words into sentences and to identify the definitions. 10H petition objective test will take place on Thursday. Even if you do not plan on petitioning into 10H, you will still take this test as practice for the SAT. 
March 3-7 Homework - Monday, March 03, 2014
Ideal Spouse questions for R & J due on Tuesday. These should be answered in complete and detailed sentences in your journal (entry #16--titled "Ideal Spouse Questions"). Get a good night's sleep on Wednesday because you will write your common assessment essay in class on Thursday. If you plan on petitioning into 10H next year, this essay will be a determining factor. If you want to use your own copy of Romeo and Juliet, start bringing it to class on Wednesday. Lit terms definitions and examples are due on Thursday. The words are as follows: pun, oxymoron, foil, dramatic irony, soliloquy, monologue, personification, tragedy, onomatopoeia, metaphor. Use literary-devices.com for definitions and examples. 
Feb 24-28 Homework - Monday, February 24, 2014
Poetry terms quiz on Tuesday. Use your handout and/or the PowerPoint notes under the 9CP section to review for the quiz. You may also want to look over your practice analysis to review identifying the poetic devices. You will need to know your username and password for the school computers by Wednesday. We will be in the Warrior Lab working on your group research projects for Romeo and Juliet on Wednesday and Thursday. Group PowerPoint presentations will start on Friday. Designate someone in your group to email me a copy of your presentations by FRIDAY MORNING at the latest.

Feb 3-7 Homework - Monday, February 03, 2014
Bring in a hardcopy of an advertisement to analyze in class on Tuesday. The ad can be from a magazine, newspaper, or printed from an online source. Make sure that it is school appropriate. One chunk practice paragraph for advertisement is due on Wednesday (we will go over this on Tuesday in class). Directions for the paragraph are listed under the 9CP section to the left. Nonfiction Literature quiz on Friday 2/7. This will include questions on any notes taken in class this week and any stories covered. 
Jan 27-31 Homework - Monday, January 27, 2014
Bring your copy of TKAM to return to the library on Wednesday 1/29. High Incident Word List #1 chart due on Thursday 1/30 (this will be handed out in class on Tuesday). Vocab test on Friday 1/31. You do not need to bring your textbook to class this week.

Bring any extra bathroom passes that you might have to turn in for extra credit on Tuesday. Be prepared for a journal check at any point this week, including the day of your final. 
June 2-6 Homework - Monday, June 02, 2014
Add 2 more quotes/explanations to your symbols chart by Wednesday (you should have at least 6 total by then). Finish reading LOTF by Wednesday. Discussion questions are due on Thursday. We will be in the library on Thursday and Friday to work on your symbols project. Bring your blue literature book to return to the library on Friday. 
May 28-30 Homework - Tuesday, May 27, 2014
Vocab definitions (only) due Wednesday. Completed vocab chart is due on Friday, which is also the day of the vocab test. Reading for Chapter 10 has been moved to Thursday. Discussion questions for Ch. 9-10 are also due on Thursday. Extra credit bio-poem is due on Wednesday...no late work of any kind for this assignment.

LOTF Vocab handout #1 due on Wednesday. Vocab test on Friday. Reading in LOTF for Chapter 1 is due on Wednesday (expect a quiz). All 10th graders will be taking the Science STAR test on Thursday (go straight to the gym). Discussion questions for Chapter 1 are due on Friday. Bring your LOTF book every day until the day of your final exam. Keep up with the due dates on your bookmark. 
April 22-25 Homework - Tuesday, April 22, 2014
Macbeth essay prep sheet due Wednesday (this was handed out in class on Tuesday). Completed outline (on back of essay prep sheet) due Thursday, which is the day of your in class essay. Continue to bring your Macbeth book all week. If you plan on buying Lord of the Flies, you will need it in class on Friday. If not, bring your ID card to check out a book and return Macbeth on Friday. You need to let me know IN ADVANCE if you will not be here on Thursday for your essay.

Vocab definitions for Macbeth vocab list #1 are due on Wednesday. We will also be in the office on Wednesday for registration for next year. Vocab test is on Friday. The controversial issues research paper is also due on Friday. Bring a hardcopy of your final draft and works cited page. You will turn in EVERYTHING that you have completed for the research paper on Friday in your two pocket folder. Do not forget to submit your final draft and works cited to turnitin.com by Friday 3/14 at 11:59 p.m. You will lose 5 points a day for every day that you do not submit your paper. "A Problem" study guide questions due on Tuesday. I will also collect the review questions (#'s 2, 4, 5, & 6 on pg. 603 in your textbook. Answer in complete and detailed sentences) and static & dynamic characters and identifying relationships handout on Tuesday while we are in the library. Expect a large quiz on all of the short stories covered this unit on Friday (The Open Window, Leiningen, Babylon, and A Problem). Pre-final draft, including your Works Cited page is due on Friday. You must have a hard copy and your rubric in class and ready to hand in. You will also turn in your completed study guide on Friday.

Typed essay revision (see instructions on yellow sheet handed out in class on Monday) due on Thursday 2/13. Be sure to complete both the checklist AND the typed revision. Submit revision to turnitin.com by Thursday at midnight. Bring a hardcopy and your rough draft to class on Thursday. Step 2 (source cards) of research paper is due on Wednesday 2/12. Use your handout on note cards and source cards to ensure that your cards are in the correct format for full credit. Remember, you need to show me this step ahead of time if you are going to be absent on the due date. No late work.

Library days this week for Controversial Issues Research Paper = Monday 2/3 and Friday 2/7. Bring all research materials and meet in the library on these dates. A study guide for the short stories unit will be passed out in class on Wednesday. The questions for "The Open Window" are due on Thursday.
