The Westlake Career Education Program offers students many opportunities to explore careers in a variety of ways. Each program varies in the amount of time and commitment required in order to customize the career exploration experience for each student.
The Career Education Program supports the following: The CA Partnership Academy for Digital Media Arts/Game Design Intregration, CTE courses in Athletic Training, Stage Craft/Production and Environmental Field Studies, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and the Junior Achievement Company Program. Students also have the opportunity to participate in industry field trips and internships.
All Westlake High School students are provided a free NAVIANCE account. NAVIANCE allows students to explore careers, complete career surveys, explore colleges, research college majors, and assist with the college application process. Each year the counseling staff will conduct a NAVIANCE workshop related to the topics listed. Through the NAVIANCE account, students receive important messages regarding field trips, guest speakers, and internships.
Students may sign up for Regional Occupation Program (ROP) courses offered at the Career Education Center (CEC) (https://www.vcoe.org/cec) . Courses are offered in both the early and late afternoon to accomodate student's WHS class schedule. There are two CEC campus locations, one in Moorpark and one in Camarillo. All classes are tuition free and free bus transportation is available.
All of our Career Education programs are supported by VC Innovates (http://vcinnovates.org/) and Ventura County Office of Education.
