"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like, but the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child!" anonymous

We continue to learn, grow and explore in Room 5....what a fabulous place to be!  Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions or concerns via phone 498-3608 ext. 205 or e-mail:  sroth@conejousd.org

February TK Parent Letter - Tuesday, February 17, 2015
NEWS: We spread the love this week with workshops focusing on Valentine’s Day and President’s Day.  The students were able to decorate a bag that they will keep their valentine’s in.  They also practiced their one to one correspondence by completing a valentine puzzle and they practiced their color words by completing a Valentine book.  We were very patriotic making American Flags and Abraham Lincoln hats!  The students also were able to use a magnifying glass to look at a penny and a five dollar bill.  This is a fun activity you can do at home too!    And finally the students continued to work on their language arts skills with Waterford on the computer.  We are so lucky to have this amazing program at Walnut!
In reading groups, we made a special surprise for our parents.  We also practiced our addition skills.  This was very tricky!  We also introduced the concept of tally marks, this was challenging.  We played a fun game of flipping a coin to see if we would get heads or tails more frequently.  The students recorded their answers with tally marks.  We also reviewed different math patterns.
In Math, we went on a bear hunt!  We practiced our positional words and had a lot of fun acting out the song.  We also continued to practice our numbers and comparing different amounts with the words more, less, fewer, and same.
On Wednesday, we had a fire drill.  Practicing for emergencies is essential with young children.  They are better able to handle scary situations when they have been taught what is expected of them.  Have you prepared for emergencies at home?  Does your child know what to do if there is an emergency?
As we continue to work on social skills, we talked about giving and receiving compliments.  When we give and receive compliments, we make our hearts happy.  When we are mean to people we make our hearts sad.  Each day, we are striving to make our hearts happy!
