Sequoia Middle School PTA

Welcome to the 2020-2021 Sequoia Middle School PTA!

My name is Cathy Riggs and I am this year’s Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) President.  I am a full-time law enforcement officer, a cancer survivor, a single mom, and am currently working on a master of science degree in forensic psychology.

I have been involved in volunteering in Newbury Park for the past eight years. I went to Sequoia as a middle school student and moved back to NP almost two decades later when I finished chemo.

I love Newbury Park, and I love the community here and all the volunteer opportunities. I believe that setting an example for our children is incredibly important; they need to understand that no matter how much we work, or go to school, or take care of our families, that helping others in our community should be part of our lives. It doesn’t matter that you have only one day a week, or a month, or a year, to give. It matters that you give your time and your energy to help others.

On a personal note, I’ve met and connected with some incredible people being part of the PTSA. I have made friends with local Newbury Parkians (I just made that term up) I never would have met otherwise. Because of the PTSA, I have friends I can call on when I have childcare issues (remember, single mom, working full time/first responder) or when I want a friend who will go for a walk with me (thanks Tina, Katie, and Suzanne), or meet for lunch.

Volunteering with the PTSA has been incredibly rewarding for me. I hope it will be the same for you. Here is a little bit about what the Sequoia PTSA does:

The Sequoia PTSA is a volunteer organization and our success is greatly dependent on parents like you volunteering to help at events, by joining the PTSA and by supporting our fundraisers.

WHAT we DO

All programs are open to all Sequoia students and we encourage all to participate.

·         Reflections Art Program (Fall)

·         Talent Show (December)

·         Abilities Awareness (Spring)

·         Musical (Spring)

·         NPHS Scholarships for Sequoia Alumni (May)

·         Campus Improvement

HOW YOU can HELP US ACHIEVE these GOALS

There are many ways to help us raise money to finance these projects as well as areas to volunteer to ensure these events go smoothly.
