Cypress Music Program
Greetings Cypress families,
My name is Mrs. Lori Morefield. I am the music specialist at Cypress. I’d like to share with you about the music program here.
Your student receives music in their classroom every other week for 30 minutes. We sing, move, and learn about various genres of music while addressing the National Standards for Music Education and National Core Arts Standards of: creating, performing, responding, and connecting.
Students learn about various composers, the 4 instrument families, sing with their classmates and perform on rhythm instruments. They read basic rhythms and listen to, analyze and describe music while learning music concepts of pitch, dynamics, tempo, form, melody and harmony. They will evaluate music and music performances, understand relationships between music and the other arts and disciplines outside the arts, and understand music in relation to history and culture.
I accompany the annual Kindergarten Thanksgiving and patriotic programs. I also teach songs for grade level performances at the monthly school-wide spirit assemblies.
Each year, our 3rd graders learn about the orchestra. These students participate in an on campus music van assembly. Third graders also learn recorders in the second half of the school year.
I accompany the 5th grade culmination program.
I look forward to sharing music with your students!
Lori D’Amore Morefield, MT-BC
