Community Service/Volunteerism Class

LIFE LESSONS—Community service class teacher Monica Beck, left, and her students Matt Miller, Sage Whittington, Sierra Bennaton and Monica Alarcon display a sampling of their efforts for Janeen Holmes, president of My Stuff Bags Foundation, right. The students from Conejo Valley High School and Century Academy, who call themselves Agents of Change, made blankets for the nonprofit, which provides supplies and amenities to foster children throughout the country.

From the Desk: Asst. Principal Bob Watson

We here at Conejo Valley High school are fortunate to have a close working relationship with the Thousand Oaks Teen Center.  Each year several students join the Assistant Principal on the Thousand Oaks Teen center advisory committee.  This allows students to gain experience working with students and adults from other schools.   The committee advises the Teen Center staff on events and activities sponsored by the Teen Center that are designed to enrich students’ lives here in the Conejo Valley.  Being on the advisory committee requires meeting once a month on the third Tuesday at the teen center.  Advisory members are also asked to help the teen center run the events and activities that take place.  Students who volunteer for these events are making connections and helping to build their resumes’.  Sometimes volunteering can also help lead to a future paying job for the students.   The Advisory committee meets once a month for nine months over the course of the school year.  The High school advisory committee meets from 7:00 to 8:00pm  Interested students should see Mr. Watson.
