Message from Mrs. Taketa, our principal

September 2016

Dear Conejo Neighborhood School and Open Classroom Leadership Magnet (OCLM) Families,

I want to thank you for an incredible start to our 2016-2017 school year. I was thrilled to see all of the new and returning families and staff members.

We are a California Gold Ribbon School based on our Leader in Me program, practicing Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits. We are on currently on our way to Lighthouse Status making Conejo Elementary a beacon of leadership.

Together with our school wide adoption of Steven Covey’s, Leader in Me and the 7 Habits program we believe that “together is better”.  The use of the 7 Habits at home and at school creates consistency for families, staff, and students. It offers positive principals for personal conduct that enables us to work together better. When we work together we get more done than if each person works alone.  None of our efforts alone are as good as a comprehensive collective approach.

There is strong research that confirms that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child. Your active support and cooperation, combined with our best professional practice, will ensure academic success for your child.  I greatly encourage you to become an active participant in our school community by joining our Parent Faculty Association, SCOPE, School Site Council, and English Learner Advisory Committee, by volunteering in your child’s classroom, or attending and supporting school events.

The goal of Conejo Neighborhood School and the Open Classroom Leadership Magnet (OCLM) is to provide each child with a rigorous curriculum appropriate to his or her academic level. We believe every child can and will achieve academic success. We also believe learning must have relevance to their world, now and in the future.

The school office is open Monday through Friday from 7:30-4:00pm. Ms. Johanna Gonzalez, our office manager, is always available to answer any questions you may have.  We are here to help you with any needs or concerns you have regarding school, feel free to call us or stop by anytime.

Reminder that there is No School Monday September 5th.
