8th Grade Promotion Requirements
In an effort to help middle school students be more successful in middle school, to help them develop and maintain good study habits and focus, and to provide a more structured transition from elementary school to high school, the criteria for promotion and end-of-year activities are listed below:

  • Pass English and Math each trimester
  • Pass 5 of 6 classes each trimester or all classes, if on a minimum day schedule
  • Satisfy school requirements for citizenship points, school fines, detentions, lost textbooks, discipline, etc.
Per Assembly Bill 1626, Education Code 48070, 48070.5, and Board Policy 5123, students in grade 8 will be retained if they fail both English and Math Trimester 3.

Students who fail, or are in danger of failing, either English or Math must participate in an intervention program in order to be considered for promotion.

Students retained in grade 8 will be transferred to an Opportunity Program to be held at Conejo Valley High School.

Tdap Requirement

Tdap Requirement (Incoming 7th & 8th Graders):

Per California Assembly Bill 354, all students enrolled in 7th-12th grades will need proof of an adolescent whooping cough/pertussis booster shot (Tdap) BEFORE STARTING SCHOOL.  Students who do not show proof of receiving a Tdap booster shot WILL NOT be able to attend school until proof is provided to the school.

Tdap is routinely administered on or after the 10th birthday.  Td vaccine, invented before Tdap, protects persons 7 years old against tetanus and diptheria.  Td vaccine does not protect against pertussis, therefore it does not meet the Tdap requirement.

In the Conejo Valley Unified School District all students enrolling in grades 7-12 must show proof of receiving the Tdap immunization no later than Thursday, August 22, 2013.

There is no grace period or extension under current law.  All students in grades 7-12 must show proof of Tdap immunization before starting school in the Fall.

Please submit proof of Tdap immunization to the Colina Health Office ASAP.

For information on low or no cost Tdap vaccinations, contact Ventura County Public Health at (805) 981-5221 or visit http://www.vchca.org/public-health/public-health-clinics

Wear Pink on Minimum Days

February 27, 2013 was Annual Pink Shirt Day: "Make Some Noise Against Bullying"

Colina ASB has decided to make every Minimum day a "wear Pink CODY Day"

This year during CORE students learned about bullying and the importance of standing up for others.  Then on October 10th, we invited Mr. Keith Hawkins to Colina to talk to our students about being the best person that they can be. Throughout the year we will remind students of this message through CORE talks with Mrs. Kennedy and Mr. Niemczyk, wearing pink, WEB, and ASB activities.

Check out the following YouTube videos showing other students raising awareness about Pink Shirt Day:

Make Some Noise Against Bullying

Acceptance: Vancouver Giants Game Flash Mob

Wear Pink on Minimum Days to Stand Up FOR Cyber-Safety and AGAINST Bullying

Click here for a sample video clip from You Tube used in the presentation entitled, "Do You Really Know Who You're Talking To?"

The main points of the presentation were:

* Use Your Brain *

* Think Before You Post – Once It’s Up, It’s Up *

* Think Before You Post – Do You Really Know Who You’re Talking To? *

* Think Before You Post – Take 5 If You’re Not Sure *

* Cyberbullying Hurts – No Joke *

 * Cyber-bullying Is Viral, But There Are Things You Can Do To Stop It From Spreading *

What can you do about bullying?
o   Don’t spread the bullying virus. Let it end with you. Embrace the motto, “Bullying Stops Here.”
o   Spread messages of courage, compassion, bravery and hope. They can be viral too.
o   Check your online image. Is it who you want to be? If not, change it. Employers and schools are watching.
o   Report bullying to host sites and to adults at home and at school.
o   Wear pink on Minimum Days to pledge that you will “b.smart.b.kind.b.safe.” Show the bullies that we outnumber them. They aren’t as big as they think they are.

Why pink?

Our first minimum day was a breathtaking sea of pink. The Colina community showed that it will b.smart.b.kind.b.safe!
