School Choice

What is School of Choice?

All of Conejo Valley Unified Schools are considered Schools of Choice. As long as a school is not filled to its capacity with existing students and incoming neighborhood students, students living outside the neighborhood boundaries of a school may apply to enroll in that school. School of Choice schools may accept students until they are filled to capacity. If there are more applications than there are available spots for interested students, the District will conduct a random lottery to select the number of students the school is able to accept.

*Please note: School of Choice is only available to school-aged children living in the boundaries of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, children residing outside of CVUSD's boundaries may apply to attend a CVUSD school via the Inter-District Transfer process

Who can apply for School of Choice?
Any school-age child living in the boundaries of CVUSD may apply for School Choice. *Please note: You do not need to submit a School Choice Application if you are planning to attend your neighborhood school.

2020/2021 Registration

When Does Registration Begin?

Registration is currently being accepted for the 2020/2021 school year.

How Do I Register for the Upcoming School Year?

You may only register at your neighborhood school, unless you have received an approved School Choice transfer. A registration packet will need to be picked up from Aspen for anyone living in our attendance area. It is not available online. The process is detailed on the Registration Procedures document to the left. The required documents should be brought in with you when you have completed your packet. A child's legal guardian is the only person who can return a Registration packet and enroll a student.

How Do I Know my Neighborhood School?

Please check this website: http://www.myschoollocation.com/conejovalleyusd/, or contact our Office at (805) 495-2810 anytime between 7:30am-4:00pm with any questions.

What if I Want my Student to Go to Another School?

If you would like to attend a school other than your neighborhood school, that is handled through a School Choice Application. Please see the School Choice section to the left for information and instructions.

What if I Don't Live in the Conejo Valley Residency Area?

Families outside of CVUSD boundaries who wish to attend a CVUSD school will need to complete an Interdistrict Transfer Agreement. For approval to leave your current district, the Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form must be obtained from and submitted to your local school district of residence. Your district of residence will forward the approved Interdistrict Transfer Agreement to CVUSD. More information can be found on the District website here.

Is My Student in Transitional Kindergarten or Kindergarten?

For the 2020/2021 school year, your student must be 5 on or before 9/1/2020 to enroll in Kindergarten. Students born between 9/2/2015 an 12/2/2015 are eligible for Transitional Kindergarten. If your student is born between 7/1/2015 and 9/1/2015, they are eligible for either TK or K.

How Do I Register my Student for Transitional Kindergarten?

TK registration is handled through the School Choice Application process (please see above for more information).

Does Aspen Offer Childcare?

CVUSD has a Child Care Department that runs an afterschool program onsite (subject to availability). More information can be found on their website: http://www.cvusdchildcare.com/ or by calling (805) 492-3567. When you come to register your student, let the office know that you are interested in Child Care and they can also provide you with a Registration form.
