INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT ANNOUNCED

CVUSD Board of Education Confirms Dr. Mark W. McLaughlin as Interim Superintendent for the 2017 – 2018 School Year

Thousand Oaks, Calif., June 20, 2017 – The Board of Education (Board) of the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) announced today during its regularly scheduled meeting that Dr. Mark W. McLaughlin was the applicant selected to fill the Interim Superintendent position.  His start date is June 22, 2017 and will continue through the 2017 – 2018 school year.

Dr. McLaughlin has been the CVUSD Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources since 2013, and in that time, has supervised the placement of staff for 27 schools, as well as District office level positions. Last summer, Dr. McLaughlin was also instrumental in collaborating with the community in the development of the Conejo Valley Learning Center (CVLC) relocation project report.  Prior to CVUSD, he worked for the Fontana Unified School District as the Director of Certificated Human Resources, and has also served as a teacher and administrator at both the elementary and secondary levels.

A respected problem-solver and trusted resource in the areas of human resources, fiscal management, and instructional pedagogy, Dr. McLaughlin has worked tirelessly to help strengthen CVUSD’s relationships with three key labor associations and their leaders.  This included helping the district work through employee and contract matters, and successfully negotiating employee salary increases, while keeping class sizes low and meeting all financial responsibilities, year after year.  “My goal has been to make sure that CVUSD employees are treated with fairness, respect, and dignity, which, I believe, translates to better experiences, and better outcomes for our students,” said Dr. McLaughlin. “I am looking forward to serving CVUSD in this new capacity this year, and continuing to help build a strong organization of caring individuals.  I am a strong believer in teamwork, relationship building, trust, and accountability.”

Dr. McLaughlin holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from California Lutheran University, a Master’s degree in Education with an Emphasis in School Administration from Azusa Pacific University, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Montana-Western.

Dr. McLaughlin’s wife, Chinna, works as a Speech/Language Pathologist for the Ventura County Office of Education and they have 3 children, Amelie (14), Aidan (12), and Kaci (7).
