The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Conejo Valley Unified School District to shine a light on educators throughout the 2016-2017 school year with its Teacher of the Month recognition program.
In a surprise celebration on Wednesday, April 5th Tina Carlisle of Westlake High School was named CVUSD’s April Teacher of the Month. Tina currently teaches American Sign Language levels 1, 2, and 3, along with Spanish. She also serves as Westlake High School’s World Languages Department chair.
Tina has been a teacher in the District at Westlake High School since September 2008. She was selected as Teacher of the Month because of her dedication to engaging and supporting all students in learning by demonstrating the following key criteria:
1. Open doors by recognizing diverse needs of learners
2. Exhibit high professional standards
3. Engages with families and the community
Tina uses a variety of teaching strategies to motivate and inspire students, including hands-on learning activities, incorporating technology into the curriculum and sharing personal experiences.
She engages students with creative and relevant activities in a quiet and calm environment that supports students from varying academic levels, including Special Education, college preparatory and advanced placement.
She also readily volunteers for many extra-curricular activities at Westlake High School, serving as the advisor for the school’s National Honor Society chapter, the moderator for the American Sign Language Club, and assisting with the Freshmen Orientation Program over the summer.
To celebrate Tina’s April Teacher of the Month recognition, members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce congratulated her with gifts from their local businesses. Additionally, members from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and CVUSD Superintendent, Dr. Ann Bonitatibus presented Tina with a commemorative plaque recognizing her achievement.
