On Tuesday, July 25th, the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Board of Education announced that Allison Kennedy was selected as the new principal of Banyan Elementary, starting with the 2017-2018 school year. Mrs. Kennedy has devoted the past 18 years of her career to Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD), where she began as a teacher at Lang Ranch Elementary. Most recently, she has served as the Dean of Students at Colina Middle School since 2013.

On Tuesday, June 27th, the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Board of Education announced that Amy K. Simmons-Folkes was selected as the new principal of Madroña Elementary, beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Mrs. Folkes has served as the Assistant Principal at Simi Valley High School since 2013, and was a teacher for 13 years prior to pursuing a career in educational administration.

The Ventura County Office of Education announced today that Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) teacher, Leah Oviedo, was chosen as the 2017 Ventura County Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Oviedo is a teacher at Walnut Elementary School in Newbury Park, and was surprised with the honor in her classroom by family, as well as various members of Ventura County Office of Education, Conejo Valley Unified School District, and Unified Association of Conejo Teachers.

The Teacher of the Year program is awarded by the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE), which represents 20 school districts and 210 schools, with a total student enrollment of approximately 142,000.  The program’s goal is to recognize and honor exemplary and highly qualified teacher in Ventura County, and emphasize educational innovation, student learning, and the rewards of teaching.

Leah Oviedo receives special recognition from Chamber of Commerce, District

In a surprise celebration on Wednesday, May 31st, the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Conejo Valley Unified School District honored Leah Oviedo, a 5th grade teacher at Walnut Elementary, as their selection for Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017.

Leah has been a certificated teacher for CVUSD since 2008, and in that time, has taught at the Kindergarten, 3rd grade and 5th grade levels. She spent several years prior to that working for the district as a Child Care Assistant and a substitute teacher.  She was selected as Teacher of the Year because of her dedication to engaging and supporting all students in learning.  Leah illustrated that she is able to recognize the diverse needs of learners, exhibit high professional standards, and engage with families and the community.
