Cypress Elementary Teacher Named January Teacher of the Month

Susan Rogers receives special recognition from Chamber of Commerce, District

The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce is teaming up with Conejo Valley Unified School District to shine a light on educators throughout the 2016-2017 school year with its Teacher of the Month recognition program.

On Tuesday, January 10 Susan Rogers a 4th grade teacher at Cypress Elementary School was named CVUSD’s January Teacher of the Month in a surprise celebration.

In addition to teaching 4th grade students, Susan has also taught second grade students during her 15 year tenure at Cypress Elementary School. Beyond her role in the classroom, Susan also serves as Cypress’s Student Council Advisor and as the school’s GATE Facilitator. She was selected as Teacher of the Month because of her dedication to engaging and supporting all students in learning by demonstrating the following key criteria:

1. Open doors by recognizing diverse needs of learners

2. Exhibit high professional standards

3. Engages with families and the community

Susan accomplishes the above on a daily basis by sharing her passions with students – which includes being a math maven! She attends the annual California Mathematics Council’s fall conference and returns with fun and challenging ideas that she implements in her classroom and shares with her colleagues.

She instills leadership in Cypress’s students via her role as Student Council Advisor. With Susan’s guidance, student council runs a student store, coordinates school-wide spirit days, assists with assemblies and coordinates community service opportunities.

To celebrate Susan’s January Teacher of the Month recognition, members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce congratulated her with gifts from their local businesses. Additionally, members from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and CVUSD Superintendent Dr. Ann Bonitatibus presented her with a commemorative plaque recognizing her achievement.

Thank you Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce members and congratulations Susan!
