CVUSD’s K-5 Independent Study Program: SHINE Home School

Have you heard about CVUSD’s K-5 Independent Study Program: SHINE Home School? The program offers students an academically rigorous curriculum within the flexibility of a home-based setting.

CVUSD's SHINE Independent Home Study Program recognizes that traditional school environments aren't the right fit for all students. SHINE students are able to complete grade level material at their own pace with academic experiences that are differentiated and enriching. This allows students to pursue other interests and areas of study with more flexibility. The curriculum is grade appropriate and District aligned, with weekly SHINE classes that bring students together, along with community enrichment opportunities.

SHINE is currently overseen by two highly qualified credentialed teachers with over 33 combined years of teaching experience at the elementary school level. The teachers meet with students individually in a non-traditional classroom setting weekly or bi-weekly to plan and organize each student’s curriculum needs and academic goals. Families are also invited for monthly SHINE events with activities such as STEM and Problem Solving Experiences.

We encourage you to contact us to learn more about the program and give us the opportunity to discuss how SHINE can help meet the individual academic needs of your student.

SHINE is located at Lang Ranch Elementary at 2450 Whitechapel Place in Thousand Oaks. For more information, please call (805) 241-4417 ext. 3222 to schedule a tour and/or learn how to enroll, or visit
