Christian Gomez from Westlake High School Wins Young Investors Society Competition

Four local high schools—Agoura, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, and Simi Valley High School—competed for the title of “California State Stock Pitch Competition Champion” on April 27, 2019, hosted by Young Investors Society (YIS) at California Lutheran University. A “stock pitch” is a summary of an investment idea or opportunity.

YIS is a non-profit organization that gives high school students a unique opportunity to learn fundamental, long-term investing in an exciting and interactive way. It is traditionally run as an after-school club directed by high school teachers who recognize the importance of financial literacy.

Christian Gomez from Westlake High School won 1st place in the competition. Second place winners were Cole Whitman and Jared Stout from Thousand Oaks High School and 3rd place was Tony Tan and Aidan Vass from Westlake High School.

1st place in the JV division went to Chaarvi Goel and Jennifer Liu from Westlake High School, with second place going to Charles Qin and Kyle Miwa, also from Westlake High School

The competition is the culmination of investment skills gained during the year in the Young Investors Society program.

Christian Gomez, Cole Whitman, and Jared Stout will move on to compete in the Young Investors Society Global Stock Pitch Competition in NYC on May 17th.

Young Investors Society currently provides after-school financial literacy programs to over 240 high schools across the United States including chapters at Westlake, Agoura, Oak Park, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Oxnard High School. Young Investors Society teaches students to create life-changing habits to save and invest for the future.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the program!
