Congratulations to Westlake High's Sophie State - CVUSD's April Teacher of the Month

Sophie StateSophie State is a gifted educator who ensures all students succeed and reach their full potential. She is innovative in her teaching strategies and believes in the “power of yet,” meaning that all students have the potential to achieve when given the proper time and resources. She teaches biology, ELD, and serves as the Science Center Advisor for Westlake High School, and we are proud to call her our April Teacher of the Month!

Ms. State has been a teacher at Westlake High School for six years, where she serves as an invaluable resources for her colleagues by providing subject area expertise on teaching and evaluative practices. She also voluntarily started a teacher observation club on campus where teachers meet twice a month to discuss teaching practices and strategies.

She voluntarily provides intervention and support for students daily at lunch and has created a lunchtime help center that is welcoming for all students.

She has served as the school’s WASC Coordinator for the last two years, providing incredible leadership and guidance that has resulted in the school earning a 6-year accreditation with a 3-year re-visit!

Ms. State is truly an asset to the Westlake High School students, parents, staff and colleagues where she serves as an intelligent, empathetic, hard-working, thought-provoking, introspective, engaging and empowering educator.

Conejo Valley Unified School District along with the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor her as the April 2019 Teacher of the Month!

To celebrate Ms. State’s April Teacher of the Month recognition members from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and Dr. Mark McLaughlin, CVUSD Superintendent presented her with a commemorative plaque recognizing her achievement at a special surprise celebration on Wednesday, March 13th. Additionally, members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce congratulated her with gifts from their local businesses.
