"We The People" Lets 5th Graders' Civic Engagement Skills Shine

The Conejo Valley Unified School District’s annual 5th grade “We The People” simulated hearings at California Lutheran University are underway this week!

All 5th grade classes in the District participate in this event (four or five elementary schools attend the event each day over a four day period). The students break into teams and partake in simulated congressional hearings that are judged by CVUSD officials and community stakeholders.

This annual event gives our fifth grade students the opportunity to practice their public speaking, and civic engagement skills.

Every student and teacher involved in "We the People" is a success and we salute you one and all. Thank you for your efforts. We extend our sincere thanks to all the judges, facilitators and volunteers who give their time generously to this event - with extra special thanks to Mrs. Kim Tetzlaff, 5th grade teacher from Banyan Elementary School the District's fabulous "We the People" coordinator for over 15 years.
