More information available on this Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten webpage and below:

What is TK?

  • TK is the first year of a two-year Kindergarten program. In TK, teachers promote meaningful connections across subject matter and involve students in integrated educational experiences. Social-emotional development is a focal point of a TK year, including of students learn to develop and maintain positive relationships, identify emotions, focus attention, learn to work both independently and cooperatively, learn school routines/expectations, resolve social conflict and more.

Who is eligible for TK?

  • For the 2022-2023 School Year, students born 7/1/2017 to 2/2/2018 are TK eligible.

  • For the 2022-2023 school year, students born between 7/1/2017 and 9/1/2017 are eligible for either TK or Kindergarten.

How do I enroll my student in TK?

  • Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, a School Choice Application is no longer required for families who would like to enroll their student in TK at their assigned neighborhood school.

  • All TK students will be registered at their neighborhood school, the same as enrollment for Kindergarten, beginning January 18, 2022.

What if I want my student to attend TK at a school other than my assigned neighborhood school?

  • Families will continue to have the opportunity to submit a School Choice Application to another site of their choice.

  • Once a student is accepted for school choice at a site TK-5, they will remain at that school site, just as they do for kindergarten.  If they want to return to their neighborhood site for Kindergarten after TK, they would need to apply for school choice to return.

Where is TK being offered?

  • Potentially all CVUSD elementary neighborhood school sites will have a TK class in the 2022-23 school year.

  • As enrollment occurs through the winter and spring, a final determination of which school sites will have TK classes in the 2022-23 School Year will be made and families will be notified of a final placement for their TK student.
